If you're going to visit family or friends you could always UPS your stuff to them before you leave

If you leave the spare tyre at home you have enough space for 2 bigger bags and a canister of oil
Managed a 2 weeks trip to Italy last year this way.

I daily drive my V10 Super-duty, so the L48 that runs a little rich still saves me gas money. Of course, the lack of trunk (or opening hatch for that matter) and tiny interior, and the fact that the engine seems to send molten lava heat into the footwells, and lack of A/C keep me from thinking it as a more practical solution. But boy is it fun.
