I couldn't help but laugh. I once smoked. Back in 1980, fresh out of high school, I went to the bank and borrowed $6800.00 and purchased a numbers matching 1970 1/2 Z-28 with numbers matching, build sheet, ect. I smoked in that car for the 20 years I had her. When I sold her to pay attorneys in a child custody battle, I had to pet her up for sale. Mind you, we'd been through a lot in the 20 years we were together. Two ex wives and losing the shirt off my back twice, I managed to keep my Z-28 through it all. It was hard to part with her, but selling her paid for the custody battle and instead of a car, I had my son. Good trade though I sure miss her. Anyway, to tie this story into the subject at hand. I put her up for sale, had a LOT of lookers, and the first 3 who actually had the money bailed out after riding in her. It wasn't that she could boil the tires in first, second or third that scared them away, or the fact that this Z-28 had factory air conditioning (something that couldn't be had on a 1970 Z-28. Nope, it was none of these. It was the fact they could smell what I couldn't. After all, I COULDN'T smell it. I smelled like the same dirty ashtray as my car did. The fact I smoked in it ended up costing me a LOT more than I ever thought it would. My 74 Convertible barn find had sat in a garage the last 13 years untouched. 13 years. The owner had smoked like a freight train in it before that, evident from all the empty cigarette packages I had found while dismantling the interior. I literally had to remove all the HVAC ductwork, including the evaporator and heater core and acid bath them. All the plastic soaked in a solution of Purple Power a full 24 hrs before being scrubbed at least twice with a nylon brush. Once the entire interior had been removed and everything scrubbed twice, anywhere I could reach I borrowed an industrial ozone generator and fired it up for over a week in my sealed up Vette.
Sitting in it now, you'd have never guessed she had been abused in such a way, but oh what a project trying to undo something as nasty as cigarette smoke.
Today, I finally got around to running all the radar detector wiring and got the shift console back in place. Almost done with the interior! Yay!

Its all coming together so nicely. the hidden sub and amp as well as your color coded front kick panel speaker covers.
Overall look in those last pictures is great, could be seen as stock by most people but is so much more.
Ralph and I were more than happy help out with your ash tray projects panel.
Keep up the great work.
Coming from utter perfectionists like you and Ralph, I have to take that as a complement! It's your "touch of perfection" that set it all off! Oh...and I meant what I said about the steak dinner
Thanks for all the great comments! This was a fun build and couldn't have pulled it off without the help of my friends from down under, halfway around the planet . I recently received my new Medium Saddle pillar covers and have ran the radar detector wiring up along side the passenger side and over to the rear view mirror. I ordered a nice rear view mirror mount for the 9500xi and should have it installed soon!

Patrol is there a thread for those kick panels specifically? I like your work here. Would love to find those pics and know what considerations you put into it.
