I grew up on Long Island, the year was 1964, I was sixteen and it was graduation time. After graduation my friend told us all to come over for a party. There where about ten of us who went. When we got there my friends farther told us to wait on the driveway. When Ben came out his dad said your gift is in the garage. When the door opened there it was. A 1964 black on black fuel injected stingray with a 4spd and optional 456 rear. I mean who gets stuff like that. It was a wow day. Ben had since passed and the last I heard was his daughter still had the car. Boy would I love to see that car one more time. True story. Thanks for reading it.
You should call her and tell her you were thinking about her father and remembering that story/car. Who knows? She might be wanting to sell the car. If not, at least you can talk about it some and remember your pal.
Remembering back it was the fastest car. We all saw Ben win many races beating everything from other vettes, to GTO,442, etc. Now I will tell you that it was very interesting when one night Ben and another friend of mine Bob raced. You see Bob went to Green mtrs in Queens and bought right out of the showroom a Dodge Hemi. That was a wild night. True story
Bens dad was a very successful surgeon. I and my friends including Ben Often wondered how his dad came up with that type car and configuration. However he came up with it , it truly was a monster of a car.

Surprised that only one person wanted to know who one. Well here goes . The site was the Wantagh/seaford/oyster bat pkway. Ben had his vette and Bob had his push button Hemi. They raced 6 times up and back. You could smells burning rubber and clutch. Final results Hemi 3 Vette 3. That was the way it stayed. Both guys respected each other enough to never do it again. True story.
PS I will never understand how a S/B could ever beat a Hemi unless I did"t see it with my own eyes. Thanks

Awesome stories. I live on Long Island and grew up in Nassua county. I know exactly where you are talking about that race. I wasn't even a thought in my parents mind when this race took place. However in 1995 when I was 18 that road was still used to "test" mods made to your car. That road was supposed to go over a bridge to connect Long Island and Conn. but they never did it. It just finished very abruptly on the north shore. We used to go to the North end of it and you could launch from a stop no one around to bother you.
You are correct Jaybird it was a great spot to drag and back then we even had marked off 1/8 and 1/4 mile runs. Everyone would stay on the side of the finish line and others would be right behind whoever was racing. Thanks
you should definitely reach out and contact the daughter. I am sure she would love to hear from and old high school friend of her dad's. Especially if you tell her old stories about the Vette. I am sure she has heard them, but I bet she would be interested in another persons point of view. Plus maybe she will send you a picture of the Vette, that you could post with the story. Boy I hope she still has that car and if she has kids of her own pass it down to them someday. Imagine having a car like that stay in the Family since new. That would be pretty cool
