Boring question I realize however from all the places to chose who has the best parts accuracy for sill plate Screw set Door handle and lock gasket rubber inserts for radiator mounts. Vacuum hoses. Interior screws Door post strikes Thanks so much.
You'll need a copy of the AIM or Assembly Manual to get the PN's of the fasteners. And btw, not a boring question at all! It seems that the only fasteners that work well, in a wide variety of areas, are the ones GM put there! It's tough to cheat with Home Depot fasteners, as they suck, when trying to use them on your Corvette! In fact, when I order used parts, I usually ask for all the associated fasteners too. Finally, I found a place, that sells GM fasteners, using the GM PN. Let me know if you need a linkee.
Many such small parts are no longer produced. The sill plate screws are #10 threaded with a #8 sized Philips head. Best way to get one? Do it yourself. Buy #10 screws and grind the heads down to get them to the correct size, then paint them semi-flat (or satin) black....not semi-gloss black like the repros are painted.
Similar things have to be done for many small parts, as no one makes them correctly. You can buy almost any part "labeled" as the proper reproduction piece; but most aren't exactly the same.
Many of the repro or replacement parts on the market are not even close to correct. Its almost as if they reproduced a replacement part rather than an original.
I ran into some of the same things, I am not building an NCRS car, but some of the aftermarket hardware just screams bogus, flimsy and incorrect. Where I could I simply restored to the best of my ability to get It close. like the trim plates for the rear window lock, they were chrome but flaking. I stripped them, wire wheeled them polished them and finished in clear, the finish is a little different but at least it has the correct head and style screw until I can find clean ones from a parts car or from a forum member.
Hi K,
What others have said is true.
But, if I had ONLY ONE source (you asked for 'best' source') to buy fasteners, soft parts, and other small items from, it would be Dr.Rebuild.
I DO also use Corvette Central, ZipProducts, and Paragon Reproductions, on a part's selective basis.
I think you should have ALL 4 of those catalogues in front of you when you're parts shopping.
Regards,
Alan
PS: For instance I'm ordering something from Dr. Rebuild and Zip today because each of them have just what I'm looking for.

All too true!
Even places that used to have a reasonably correct part are not offering them any more as it isn't cost effective (or they simply can't get them).
Best choice is modify what you have to look like the "real deal." I seem to do that a lot these days.
