ok got the rad support in and the only thing holding me up from lifting the body is the rag joint. Anyone have any idea how to separate that thing?
Trying to understand why you put the radiator support back in. If you bolted it on the sides and to the frame on the bottom that will keep the body connected to frame in the front. If you are just putting the side bolts in and using the support to connect a tie strap to i sorta of understand. If you are lifting from under the door the only thing a strap does in front is to keep the body level.

Tim I left off the bottom bolts off so the body would not be connected to the frame. I read on this forum that the rad support should be in to support the front body. I also am lifting from the front as well as the mid body cuz I dont want there to be any stress which might separate the fenders from where they are bonded to the firewall area.
Anyone know how I should handle the rag joint issue?? I need to get that apart or my lift is scrubbed for today.
Well I figured out a way to separate the rag joint. I lifted the car a few inches so it would move freely, then put a pry bar between the halves and when I pried the joint apart the body moved back out of the way and she was free. That was way easier than removing the column or the steering box.
With that rag joint out of the way I made some progress. Got one of my buds to come over and help me. Its definitely a 2 man job.
I did mine by myself. If you would have spread your straps to the front of the birdcage and the other at the back there would have been no need to have two jacks and also you would not need the 4X4. All I did was run a strap front the front to the jack to give the nose support and she came straight up.
I have had mine off and on 4 or 5 times. I do it alone with out any help. I run a strap to the noise to keep the front level.. I will be removing it for the last time in a few weeks. Need to paint the engine compartment and a few final items before it goes on for last time. I use one lifting point with a gantry crane.... Best shop Tool I have purchased in a while.
Tim I have a gantry too that someone gave me. I was gonna cut it up to make a rotisserie. But I may just keep it if I lift the body again. After doing it once it doesn't seem that hard I was just intimidated cuz it was my first time. I only used two pickers cuz I had two pickers to use. I was worried about the nose breaking off. I told you I'm new to Vettes.

This is also my first vette, what I hate about pickers is the legs always need to be somewhere there is no room for them or a wheel is in the way... I will keep mine but likely will never use it again.
No telling how long these will sit here waiting to be rebuilt, I first need to strip down the frame to get it to the sandblasters. There is talk of snow in October. I need to be done hauling stuff on trailers early.
I seriously do wish I could have had access to my frame like you have when I first bought my project last October. I didn't think I needed to, as the car lived it's entire life in Southern California. It just would have been nice to have inspected everything anyway.
Great project you got there. Keep those pictures coming. We're all behind ya 100%!
Just started reading these posts, and I may be a little naive here, but was that a car lift I saw in the background of the body lift pics? Why in the world did you not use that to lift the body off?
Just saying.

Ken I would have loved to but I couldnt get the car over to it. I would have to drive it in from the side of my shop and in the condition this car was in that wasnt gonna happen.
