Default 1969 rear differential date code questions

Can someone please tell me if this rear differential is possibly original or even correct for my Feb 69 Corvette? I have tried searching the forum but have not found enough info to help me figure it out on my own.

I have some pics.
This first pic shows the date code which reads J 1 8. I am hoping this means Oct 1 1968.

This pic is taken from directly under the differential. All the characters are not shown but going from left to right I see 2 (not shown) then maybe F (partially shown to the left) then maybe A, then 12 16 68 W. All of it is hard to read.

Am I even looking in the right place?

It is supposed to be a 370 ratio and is in a 427/390 with M21. I've had the car since 1992 and its sat for a long time. I am trying to photograph everything as I disassemble and rebuild.

Any help is appreciated.
Thank you

It's also the same for 69 BB. Both years used the same codes for everything, or at least that's what I've read so far. My concern is more of do the stamp codes look correct for the differential. I haven't been able to find much on it. Am I looking in the right spot. There is so much surface rust its hard to see anything on the case.

Hi ed427,
Now that you have these pictures I go ahead and disassemble. That not going to change anything.
Then when the case and cover are out you can clean them a bit with maybe some Simple Green and get them in a better light.
You might then be able to make a more definite read on the casting date and the stamped information.
Regards,
Alan
