71 vert luggage rack
I took a long hard look at your car with rack, it has a "classic" refined look, I almost expect to see fine leather driving gloves on the dash awaiting your return,
I never really thought of the "bling" angle.
I was trying to come up with why I don't like it, besides to my eyes ruining the lines,
After reading other posts about hauling stuff or taking long trips and need the space I had to stop and think I must be in the wrong place and time but it's be a heck of a long time since I have seen a c3 driving down the road, and while I have used vettes for daily transportation all my adult life I have never needed extra space, I would be a bit worried to leave my golf clubs ( if I golfed ) or luggage on the back of the car if I went in to eat a meal or shop or whatever, And what if it rains?
Perhaps the rack is a sign of a time gone by, a "classic" time when you were not allowed to pump your own gas and other such things, after a long look at your car and thinking I have a somewhat new way of looking at the rack, I will put it in the folder of necessity, like a trailer hitch, not really meant to be "pretty" but to add function.
Since I wrote the rack, it's bolts, and the required well nuts, could be installed from the top, I felt 71 would realize the tank didn't need to be dropped.
Regards,
Alan

I'm SCG with a luggage rack as well. If you have a rack, keep it. If you don't, don't install one. The holes are very difficult to repair where they won't be noticed.
Personally, I like the rack. It's a period thing, and I like the extra "bling".

I guess you would have to unload to fuel, never thought of it, with or without the rack two very different looks...
I felt a bit badly, the OP wanted to get opinions on the luggage rack and like many who replied I was all against it, it's his car it's his choice...
I would be really sure it was something I HAD to have before adding one to a car that had never had one originally.

Here is a copy of the original 77 rack installation instructions, I'll see if I can dig them up for the 68-76 cars and post them on the site soon.
