It's your car do as you please but I wouldnt have a rack on the back of a c3 especially 68-73 if I was paid, while it gives a somewhat old school euro look it also ruins some stunning fine lines...just my opinion,
PS, would you haul luggage on it?

Luggage racks are for station wagons and the griswalds not Corvettes.
Hi 71,
I too aren't a fan of luggage racks…. even though I had one on my 71 for 20 years.
Yes it can be installed from the top. The well nuts that the rack bolts thread into are pushed into place from the top after drilling the holes.
Put a 'stop' on your drill bit so it doesn't go through the deck more than about 1/2 inch.
Consider carefully…. the holes make for a difficult repair if you change your mind.
Regards,
Alan
im not crazy about the one on my 77 ..is the something I could do to the holes if I took it off. like button head screws?
I would find little caps to fill the holes, when you first take it off you will think somethings missing and then you will think, "Damn, my car looks sweeter"
I never understood a luggage rack on a sports car, ever seen a Porsche or Ferrrari with one? save them for the SUV's and wagons
That makes zero sense. A sports car has more need for a luggage rack because there's no room inside the car. If you have a station wagon, you don't need a luggage rack because of all the room. If you go on a two week road trip, the luggage rack is a nice luxury to have on a C3.
Can a luggage rack be installed without removing the gas tank? Doesn't have one now.
I'm working on my LS swap and would like to install the gas tank. Still trying to decide yes or no on the luggage rack.
Thanks,
I have a rack on my 75 convertible that I think is ugly as hell. I didn't remove it when I painted the car because I didn't want to fool with the holes, big mistake. If you do install one, make sure you leave enough room to open the top lid. I bought a new hardware mounting kit for mine and the front "stands" were higher than the originals and caused the lid to hit when opened. I had to go back to the shorter originals
that just barely cleared. The rack is still there, never used
Building the car to be a Power Tour long hauler. Need a bit more room for "stuff".
With the LS motor it will run faster and cooler than most big blocks C3"s. Let's not talk about MPG at 70 mph. Small blocks don't have a chance in either HP or MPG.
Not trying to start a fight but I was only asking a question about a luggage rack.
Thanks for the opinions.
Oh and Merry Christmas and VERY car crafting new year.
I personally like the looks of a luggage rack. Mine doesn't have one and I would NEVER drill holes in my car to install one. Seems most vette owners hate em.

It seems Alan 71 did in fact answer the op's question long before Easy Mike's "Yes". The rest are comments on the merits of having a luggage rack since the op was/is undecided.
