What's opera lighting? I would assume a 78 is considered a "later car"
instead of putting a light in the HVAC controls, there is a little light that shines down on them that is up in the dashboard. I have a 79, and it used to work some of the time. 78 should have the same thing.
Odd thing is that my 2012 GMC Accadia has something similar that shines down on the console.
A lot's been said about what's to love and hate about C3s. But what about the dumb things that are still sort of cool? By that I mean - a feature, component, part, or characteristic that miraculously still functions but you'd probably not miss if it didn't. Or anything which seems charming because it's silly, or obsolete.
Here are some of mine:
1. The little square dash light that reminds me the headlights are coming on.
2. Ashtray cover that slides backwards from a dead stop.
3. 'Automatic' headlight bright switch (automatically/inadvertently operated by pilot's left foot).
Number 1 is not really silly. The headlight warning light is very useful. It warns you if the headlights don't lock in the up position. In that event with vacuum holding them up they could sag, reducing your ability to see down the road.
As for number 3, that was the standard way to dim/bright the headlights. Back in the day it seemed natural nd normal. I have to admit that nowadays, being used to the dimmer on the t/s stalk, the foot dimmer is really a PITA.

I don't think this is dumb, but I find the pedals are to close together. (4 speed) I wear a size 8.5 shoe and if am not conscious about my right foot placement I hit the brake and gas at the same time. Hate that. Need to buy some driving shoes as the toe box is narrow for more clearance.
The parts I like the best about my 1970 are
1. The sound of the "quiet" side pipe exhaust
2. The view of the long hood while driving
3. The rear window coming out
4. Fiber optics, they are so retro cool at night
5. The thin steering wheel
Dislikes:
The only real dislike is the lack of a 5th gear - we are doing lots of back road highway driving and would like an overdrive gear
Overall I'm having a blast with the car. It puts a big grin on the face of everyone that drives or rides in it.
I wish my '81 had the floor mounted high beam switch. My '81 Z28 had it and I loved it.
Love the foot mounted dimmer switch, best thing especially if you have an auto as that foot is spare anyway whereas both hands can be busy keeping the car pointed where its supposed to be going

Remedy: Spend a 1/2 hour driving a '52 MGTD. You'll think the C3 footwell was made for Godzilla.

Never had a problem with that but that **** down by the ball vents could have been changed.
Some just make me just surprised the cars were so advanced in 1969
1. "Bright" light on dash when foot switched (accidentally or not) turns brights on
2. "Brake" light when emergency brake is at all engaged
3. Manual windows - to roll up last inch of the way, need to open the doors (might be an issue specific to my car?)
4. That there's a separate shoulder belt that can be attached to the lap belt
5. That headlights continue to work - I hold my breath every time I turn them on, and smile in delight when they have succeeded
6. A radio antenna that goes up and down with the turning on / off of the radio (despite the radio not emitting any sound)
7. That the blinkers turn off on their own (IF (big if) the car has turned significantly enough)
8. That on a coupe there is no open-able trunk
Anti-theft alarm key cylinder on the driver's side front fender of my '75. Moved there from the rear panel in '74. Anyone ever armed theirs?
Yeah....I owned a 74 coupe back in the 70 's and if functioned correctly , for what it was worth. I seldom ever armed it though .....was young and In a big hurry.
Everybody that stops and looks at my car , has to ask about that fender switch......I tell em it's to arm the sidewinder missiles to blow little old ladies off the road.
Its not working on my 74 convertible , I think the horn is shorted out . I'll never fix it though .
