DeWitt's or Be Cool Aluminum Radiator for '79 Auto and Why? My last DeWitt's developed a leak around the overflow tube on the neck. Didn't seem like it was put together well. Never ever had a problem with cooling though. Let me know which one you would choose and why...

According to most here Dewitts is the Bomb!! This is on my short list too and I have actually been looking at Champion radiators because their price is much lower. On another note do you ever make it to the lost in the 50's car shows as I see you are local to me?

Wow, real local. Right down the road. Past couple years I've lost interest but recently picked back up my projects for my vette and hoping to be more involved this year. As for the Radiators, the DeWitt's and Be Cool's are very expensive. Just want one that will last. Champion's and some others are half what the better one's cost but you do get what you pay for. I've heard of the Lost in the 50's Car Show. where and when is it?
I like my BeCool. Got it 15 years ago and it's still like new. Never any problems with it and the car runs cool in TX heat with AC (and it's a big-block, too).

Marley Station Mall every Saturday night when the weather breaks! I drive my 79 there , 2 bucks to get in but goes for good causes and there is usually is a few c-3's there as well.

I just installed my DeWitt's radiator over the Christmas break. It definitely does the job. My car does not go over 160. The only drawback was that the factory mounted dual spal fans needed to be moved over about an inch to clear the control arms. The Champion radiator that I looked at would not have fit well into my 72 coupe without major modifications. Even the Champion rep that I was working with didn't think it would work. Since your car is a 79, you may have better luck. I'm a DeWitts fan at this point.
Still have the rad? If so, then I agree with Gary, and would give Dewitts a call for their advice concerning the leak.
I also like that replacement unit of their's that Zip sells.
Have put Dewitts radiators in 3 of my cars through the years because of the quality, workmanship and dependability. Sorry, cant comment on Be cool, never had one. Hope it works out for you. Good luck.
Dewitts is also a Corvette Forum supporting member, they also chime in giving expert advise. Suspect you can see whose product I like, but they don't supply you with an extra decal. That's a hint Tom. T
I bought a DeWitt's radiator for my '81 4 speed because I could not find any other manufacturer ( at the time ) that offered a radiator without a built in automatic transmission oil cooler ( which, of course a standard trans car does not need )...and the other usual reasons for purchasing from DeWitt's...fit finish quality performance etc.....Good Luck!

Oh yes, I've been there several times. PM me so we can coordinate the next meet.

Yea, the first thing I did was contact DeWitt's and basically didn't receive positive response from them regarding the rad. Only 1 out of 3 emails were responded to. Was hoping for some sort of warranty, possibly sending the core back to be replaced or repaired, asking for a new neck, and my last email specified purchasing a new one outright and still no response. So, I know a welder who was able to weld the neck up along with the overflow tube. Unfortunately, welded the inside of the neck too and screwed up the ring surface where the bottom rubber of the cap mates. We did manage to grind down and create a flat surface and create a seal once the cap is installed. When the cap is installed and all ports are plugged, when I blow into the overflow tube, I can't blow, which is good but not sure I want to wing it with this patch work. So, basically on the inside of the hole where the cap goes there is no longer that raised ring where the rubber of the cal would mate.
I went with a Dewitts and bought it through Willcox. They had a 20% off coupon that worked. I have been very happy with my Dewitts and was a perfect fit on my 71.

Because the dewitts radiator with double fans RESTRICTS air flow overall (when they are not on) and are constantly coming on/off . draining the battery by constantly cycling....( on my C3)

What type of paint would I need? I'm under the impression you need a certain type of paint......
Eastwood's Radiator Black Paint. That's what I used. Over 10 years and still good. It is a high temp. laquer type (but acrylic enamel) paint. Don't use the enamel types from part stores....they will clog the rad's airflow.
