Default Z Bar mount bracket help

Hi All,

I'm in the middle of an auto to manual swap on my 75 and I have a question that hopefully someone can answer. Is it possible to use the bolt on z bar mount bracket used on 78-81 c3s? I understand that on those cars, the holes were already in the frame where my 75 wouldn't be. Just seems that it may be easier route to take than welding the bracket in.

Also, if anyone has a picture of the bracket, on the frame, I would greatly appreciate it. I know in a general sense where it goes, but a good picture would be pretty helpful in getting it in the correct spot.

Thanks,
Bryan

If I were to do this to your car..I would have mixed feeling on using the bolt on bracket. The reason being the large square nuts that are welded to the inside of your frame allow for some good surface area for strength. IF using 'riv-nuts'...they will work but that do not have as much grip surface on the backside....even though they are used quite a lot on the new Corvettes....BUT they are generally used for attaching parts that are not moving...form what I have seen

Hopefully someone can post a photo. It is simple. The Z-bar as level as possible LEVEL with the ball stud in the block.....then the Z-bar perpendicular to the block....then the bracket out far enough when the linkage is attached....they are not at severe angles....which can cause binding and then wearing out prematurely.

I did a conversion years ago and had a mobile welding outfit come to the house and weld the non bolt on bracket to the frame. Seemed so much stronger, and with the frame and bracket all prepped it wasn't expensive at all for his service. Just a thought, good luck.

The late model C3 bolt on Zbar bracket is a pretty lightweight piece. I wouldn't plan on using it with a performance clutch.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone so far. I'm just trying to figure out the best way to move forward, without compromising the integrity of the installation. I would like to weld the bracket, but don't own a welder and don't know how to weld. Maybe I just need to bite the bullet and buy one and do a little practice. I have looked around a bit for a mobile service, but haven't found anything close. Anyway, thanks again for the opinions and I would still appreciate if anyone has a photo.
