Using an inspection camera I found my build sheet. Its on top of the gas tank shield on the drivers side. It looks unreadable and I don't want to damage it by trying to remove it. I am thinking of just leaving it be. Here are some pictures:
The only way to remove it with the least amount of damage is to drop the tank. Sometimes a lot of the dust can be knocked off using a dry paint brush, making it readable.
I never have found my '76's which I bought new. I've had practically the hole car apart at one time or another, including gas tank removal. I've read they were pretty lax back then and that they could be found anywhere on the car. I guess mine ended up in the trash at the factory.
Leave it alone for the time being. There is no reason to believe your car is not original and no real reason to go fishing for the tank sticker. At some future date, if the tank has to come out, get it then.

I had the tank out of my 76 twice and didn't find anything. I pulled the tank shield out and there it was. It was like I found king tut's tomb. But it was totally illegible and somewhat rotted away.
When I had the body off of my 72 I removed the tank sticker and made a copy and laminated it , then glued it back on to the tank . This time it will stay good forever. I'm keeping the original with my other papers for the car .
IF you can remove it without much damage, a pro document restorer (call State Library and/or museums for sources) can likely detect and provide copy of what info was on it.
If you don't want to drop the tank to get at it safely, just leave it there. It's done OK for the last 40+ years. A few more won't damage it any more.
