Default Starter Relay Issues

What would cause a brand new starter relay on a C3 to go bad after two starts? This is my 2nd starter relay purchase within 6 months. Battery and Starter are both good. Unsure where to take it from here.

Would be helpful if you told us what you're working on and/or filled in your profile.
If you're talking about the starter solenoid it's unlikely that it would go bad so quickly. What are your overall symptoms?

Well, I am a first time owner. Just signed onto this forum for a little help direction. I have a 75 Stingray that would not start back in May of last year. Had a dealer replace the starter and the relay switch that is mounted close to the front windshield passenger side. The car will not "click" when trying to start back in December. I tapped on the starter relay and it started up to where it got me home. Started the vehicle a couple of more times within a month timeframe then I could not get it started anymore. Wednesday I replaced the starter relay. The car started twice and that was it. I get no clicking, no attempts of turning over. Batter has a charge.

Hammerhead Fred: Is this enough background?

could be your neutral safety switch. try starting it in neutral or moving the shifter around. if its an auto. i think the 75 had a seat belt reset relay that was tied into the starter wiring.

Do you have a part number or photo of the relay you are referring to?
There was a starter interlock relay bypass for 1974 but I don't think it applies to you. Only other relay in that area is for the high speed fan.

How old is the starter? Has it ever been rebuilt? About the only things that go bad on a starter are the bearing/bushing and the brushes. If the car has over 150Kmiles and has never had the starter rebuilt, those brushes may be completely shot. When that happens, all sorts of 'odd' things can happen, not mentioning that the commutator can get gouged up and wasted.

That would be my guess.
