That's leather pattern upholstery with the pleats running left to right. Actual material could be leather look vinyl. Regular 74 upholstery was Comfortweave.
If you have the delux interior , it came with the wood trim panels, on the doors and the deluxe leather seats . Those are the pattern like mine .....which has the deluxe interior . The GM original were vinyl bolsters with leather inserts. Some new repo seat cover are All leather . I think at least one company makes te GM style .
The ONLY way to be absolutely certain...is you need to see the covers from the backside. OBVIOUSLY leather will have a suede texture....and vinyl will not and be more like a smooth woven fabric. From the photo you posted....it is a guessing game.

Dub,
I agree. Mine are leather-like and from a pic it is hard to tell from leather.
There are a few more pictures here. Keep in mind that I was re-doing seat covers/foams/seat frames at the same time. Putting that aside I would say about 3-4 hours once you have the hardware.

Paul, thank you very much for your answers and time. . Very interesting however Im not to the point of taking the seat backs completely off , the car only has 12,000 miles and I really don't want to screw it up yet.

I understand what you are saying. Things do have to come apart somewhat to get the pass-through hardware installed.
May I suggest you have these frames powder coated?
1. You've gone this far,
2. you'll never have to worry about rust,
3. it won't cost that much,
4. and you know the complete upholstery job was done right.
And check to make sure all the welded bolt hole plates are in place. I found a few on my bottom pans loose/missing.
The complete seat refurb on my 1974 including frames was done in 2010. So it is a little late for powder coating. I did use Rustoleum paint so I imagine things under the covers are holding up OK.

Yeah, never mind. Just saw the naked frames & thought that was where you were.
