Default Door Panel Touch up-repair suggestions?

A search on this wasn't helpful so I pose this question of the dreaded door panels:
1976 OEM original door panel could use some touch up or repair on the top where it latches. There's the crack in the vinyl and chipping around the edges. Anyone find a good way to DIY? (superglue didn't close the gap and as for the chips I need something to put in there that won't shrink and is a little flexible.)

Also what glue is used to affix a new carpet strip bottom on the door? These are deluxe door panels and $$$$ ! I would buy new but when I saw the prices,,,

Hi 72/86,
A question first… it looks from the picture as though that trim panel may have already had some 'work' done on it including some paint.
Is that so? Is that something you did or a previous owner's work?
I ask because what's been done to it previously may have some affect on your options now and how you might proceed.
Regards,
Alan

Yes the PO put some type of patching here and there on both panels, maybe body filler? Im not sure about the area in question, but for arguments sakes, lets say "yes".

As for the crack in the door panel. There was a guy in my town that repaired cracks like this...and I saw the process and he had stuff in unmarked bottles that he used so no one would know what it was.

It has EVERYTHING to do with getting it clean...and if it were me....not writing that I fix door panels. I would use the urethane bumper repair material. Which in itself can be a bit expensive....along with the cleaners and adhesion promoters to make sure the stuff sticks.

Google 'Vinyl repair' and see what you get.

AS for the glue...it is contact cement and staples secure the bottom carpet for the door panel. I use DAP Weldwood.

Another post mentioned Shoe Goo. I see ACE carries the Shoe Goo. Gonna pic some up and give it a try. Thanks

I use the Q-bond also...but that is not the same material for this vinyl. Q-bond is not flexible....mainly for rigid plastic repairs.

i've fixed a couple of pieces over the years. I use a razor blade and trim the cracked edges smooth leaving a small trough. then I use 3M plastic emblem cement and fill in the trough and cover over the edges. let dry for a few days. sand with fine paper and paint. biggest issue is there is no grain in the fix but the glue is flexible. it can fix the damage you are showing. JB weld also works same way.
