Bob's 1969 Resto-Mod Build Thread

First, I removed the core support and built a new reinforcement from wood to secure the nose.

That is how it was sitting. with the strap holding it all in place. The radiator support and the cross member under the nose and the support brackets needed to be removed. The brackets to be blasted and coated.

Started by resting everything on jack stands.

Holds the front end much better

I tried once to bend it using a propane torch... but no dice. So I picked up a new toy: MAP Gas

Got her bolted in the vice, and turned up the heat!

A little after picture:

Not perfect, but not bad for my first shot!

Got her all blasted! Now with the exception of a sheared bolt, she looks brand new

What do you all think?

If you ever make it down to Norfolk, give me a shout, Im right around the corner from the base.

I wish I would have known that I spend the week before last in Norfolk. I will probably get down again sometime soon, I would love to check out your project.
Im also curious what the cost difference was between ordering just the bare frame, and finding a C5 donor car vs. ordering the frame as a roller with the full suspension and differential installed with the plywood wheels.
Keep up the good work!

For my drive-line, I went with RPM Transmissions, and they took in my C5 T56 and Diff in as partial core for the TR6060 and Camaro Diff. So a good chunk of the parts from the C5 are being used or exchanged. (I wish I had thought about that, I have two sets of stock C5 Sway bars sitting in a storage unit that I don't have access to)
I am not sure what the cost difference will be in shipping the frame in a crate or on the plywood wheels.
I am not sure either about the max wheel width, but the limitation will be the suspension A-arms, and not the fiberglass, as the entire rear floor section will be removed and re-glassed to fit. I am going to go with the most width inside of the caliper as possible. With that, I am going to look at the geometry of using the LG Drop Spindles to see if they will allow for a wider wheel inside over the stock spindles, in addition to the added benefit of having a better suspension geometry with a lowered stance.
Hopefully that answered some of your questions, please feel free to shoot some more. Its easier to answer questions here honestly rather than just trying to "blog" what I have been doing. Thank you for your interest.

Thanks, I told Mike at SRIII the same thing. I cant wait to see it in person.
Thanks, Kevin.
