Default Headlight switch removal

Before you say it, I did do a search... So, now that the search has failed me, again, can someone please tell me how to remove the headlight switch? Thank you!!!

Tony, you have to loosen up the driver side dash panel to get access to the bottom of the headlight switch. It has a spring loaded button on it , that you have to push in to remove the headlight switch **** and shaft. Then there is a special nut that you have to turn to release the switch, itself. You my be able to use needle nose pliers or a large screw driver on that nut. I hope this helps you out. I have a 68 and I imagine the 78-up dashes are different to get to the switch. Lou.

Thanks Lou, I have a 76, guess I should have said that LOL I also have the dash apart so it's easy to get to now, I'll see if I can't find that spring loaded button, now that I know I'm looking for something like that maybe I can find it Thanks again!

They sell a tool for taking that nut off but I just made one but you will need some tools to make the tool and some fabricating skills.

Thanks, I was able to get it with the screw driver but did bugger up the bezel a little, not bad though so it shouldn't be noticeable

Sticking the tips of a set of needle-nosed pliers into the slots on that collar will usually work to get it loosened or tightened.

Mine was so frozen on there that didn't work but that's how I will put it back on. I'm thinking I should probably buy a new switch, this one has had water on it. It did work fine but do I trust that it's going to continue to work fine???
