Default Engine codes

Just lifted the body off on my '73. While doing a little wire brushing along the frame and engine.......I find these engine markings. I assume the "HIO 72" I found on the back of engine block and rear of the intake means High Output and the year the engine was assembled. Not sure what the Conv1 is suppose to indicate. Any ideas?
I find it funny that by 1972/73.....275 HP was considered high Output. Anyhow.....I feel inspired to bring this engine up to it's potential in the rebuild.

It's the casting date for your block.

H 10 72.... August 10, 1972.

The H stands for August, the number 10 after it is the day and 72 is the year.

OK....I'll buy that. So there's an 8 day difference between casting date and assembly date?

Yep. Block casting dates and engine assembly dates almost always vary with the block casting date being the earliest. You'll find the same time lag with head and manifold casting dates.
