I had a ride in a RWD single motor(they can be had with two) Tesla the other day. It's got a huge LED control screen, which is very distracting but makes the interior feel like an airplane. The electronic controls allow selection of every conceivable preference including power output and traction control. On the two engine versions there is a "Ludicrous" (that's what the control panel calls it) setting for all-out acceleration. It's an eerie feeling when the car accelerates very quickly without any sound. I'm accustomed to roaring exhaust, screeching tires, rattles, squeaks and other misc sound effects.
No, I'm not in the market for one, it was a neighbor of a family member!
Hi,
Ludicrous…..0-60….2.8 seconds.
Way off topic so it probably won't last although there IS a Corvette in zwede's picture.
I read the recent book about Musk and he seems to be right on the edge of being a LUNATIC!
BUT!!!! isn't that often the sort of people that can actually make things HAPPEN!
He's still hoping/planning/on schedule to build about 50,000 cars this year.

Alan
Musk is walking that fine line between genius and insanity. Much like Steve Jobs except Musk is not nearly the jerk Jobs was.
It is hilarious listening to the other automakers frantically declaring Tesla dead. They've been doing it for years now and Tesla isn't only still around, but expanding at an amazing pace.
I have not yet been able to get excited about these new electric vehicles. The style of the cars are not anything I like. The feedback between the car & driver in older cars is also important & I prefer old cars to new ones, there is just nothing about them I see that would benefit me.
What is the price for a car like this in USA? (new)
Roughly $70K-$120K depending on options. The lower end would be a RWD 70KWh battery and high end AWD (dual) performance motors with a 90KWh battery. Even the low end does 0-60mph in the 5-second range.
The Tesla is very fast and incredible torque, but IMO it's not a driver's car. Given the choice between a 2016 Vette of a 2016 Tesla, I would go with the Vette and not look back (at the Tesla in my rearview mirror).

When I first starting reading this since I didn't know what a Tesla was I thought you were going to talk about a sports car that was compared to the new Corvette and when I saw what the car was I said WHAT ?? You've got to be kidding , $70,000. and up? for a sedan . I want some styling for my money . This car will just blend in with all of the cheap Ford sedans on the road. ( definitely not a compliment ) .
Theres quite a few where I live, really attractive cars, I like them alot better looks wise than the other sedans in their price range. The ones I've looked at certainly had some fit and finish issues but actually very impressive considering the kind of budget they were designed and built on.
Hi bj1k,
Good Eye!!!! on the appearance link to Ford…. and it actually goes even further back I think to Aston Martin.
Take at the Aston Martin Rapide S.
A GREAT looking 4 door car.

These are made just up the road from me in Fremont, CA. It was a GM plant back in the day; they made El Caminos and my 65 4-4-2, among others. After shut down, Toyota and GM (NUMMI) made Corollas and Geos, then Toyota Pickups. Closed again, then Elon Musk decided to build his cars there. They are a great tax generator for the area and are always hiring. They will build the affordable electric in about 2 years. And by the way, they are incredible driver's cars. The price is high, but you can't buy gas, PGE gives you a break on charging, and the government offers pretty good rebates. Beautiful cars, and truly American. Another American success story. I was considering one 2 years ago, but as others have said, that's a lot of $$. There is now a good market for lease returns and used models.
As new cars go, they're pretty spectacular. I love the 'organic' feel of my C3, but in the completely opposite direction, a Tesla is like flying a fighter jet with no sound. You literally get pinned back against the seat when you accelerate and there is NO sound.
The fact that they're all-electric is nice and they've greatly improved range. I was impressed with the fit and finish as well as performance and think they're great looking cars. Tried to talk my wife into one, but she prefers BMW.
I can't see trading off the sounds, smells and feeling of the Vette though. Even with the headaches, it's a more satisfying driving experience.
