Hi Adam,
Yes, but also maybe!?!
There is VERY little room between the transmission and underside of the transmission tunnel.
If I were doing it I would resort to cutting the insulation crosswise into 4 or 5 strips/pieces which could the be worked/forced into position individually.
I'd then try to seal the cuts back up using the silver duct tape that's actually used on hvac duct work.
Keeping it in place won't be a problem… it'll be TIGHT in there.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
I did it with just one cut...But it didn't fit in there like I wanted it to....Better than having nothing and I will replace it the right way if or should I say when I have to drop the trans.
I was able to get it installed by splitting it down the center and sliding each half up around the Tremec. So I imagine if you have a muncie 4sp it should work just fine. I also sprayed the back of the pieces with 3m adhesive at time of final placement.
Excellent ideas from all - thanks very much guys! This seems like an achievable goal without breaking the bank, and any help with interior heat would be a good thing.
I think a lot of us can relate to that. I have yet to drive mine in really hot weather but I cringe, because it gets REALLY HOT down here on the Gulf Coast.
I hear you... getting stupid hot here in Phoenix as well. The summer months don't allow for much driving time unless you have AC, which we don't (yet).
On a 4 speed, without taking the shifter out of the car the only way is to split it.
When you install it watch out for those retaining tabs.... They can bite...
When we install them by splitting them in half we use the foil tape with some wildwood glue to connect the two halves together. It won't show up that bad if you do this.
