Dub,
The windshield has blackout on all 4 edges. Very easy to spot. Some of them are so wavy it's like looking thru a funhouse mirror.

If it is I'll get it replaced later. A good one is not excessively expensive.

SMOKING SHARP EYE!!!!:thum bs:

I usually pick up on the fine details....but I would have stepped into that mine field. I was not even considering it. I see so many new Corvettes that it is common to see that black trim now-a-days...that it did not register in my head as being wrong.

You're correct, good windshields are not very expensive and are available locally. The windshield currently in the car is very cheap and you will find them at swapmeets. The blackout is illegal in Texas except for the top edge as long as it is above the AS1 line. I have removed several of them, and installed good ones, because they are so warped the wipers won't make a clean sweep.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm just getting tired of looking. If this one doesn't pan out I think I am just going to stop and rethink things. Maybe a off-road vehicle or something.

Here's my experience: I looked at thousands of Corvettes on Craigslist, literally for years, just for the fun of it. Then one day, I clicked on an ad and the friggin' car talked to me through the ad. It stopped me, dead in my tracks. It went something like this:

Faded Beat Up C3: Hey, I know you!

Me: I know you too!

FBUC3: I'm going to be a fun little bitch of a car, we'll have excitement and fun!

Me: Really? Wow, well, you're my car. I know that for a fact.

I got the car. What a wreck, but it was indeed MY car and I was Hers as well. She proved to be, just as exciting as she made herself out to be. Even with a worn out L48, beat up as heck, she was a blast to drive and would get all rowdy and sideways (and loved it too!).

She's still a rowdy little beyatch. Loves to get it on, even at the drag strip. No bog, no falling on her face, just pulls hard all the way. She'll start instantly, every time, even on cold mornings or after sitting for a couple of weeks. Three pumps, hold it a 1/4 way down and Vroom!

Here is the Craigslist Pic that I saw. And like a marriage, it was sealed, until death do us part. If you're patient, you'll find YOUR car. I have had buddies with similar experiences.

Just waiting for me...

And if this one isn't YOUR car, don't buy it. You'll know, YOUR car, when you find each other.

If you don't believe it, one time, riding the Harley, stopped at a Harley Dealership, with the wife and I tried sitting on a few bikes, something I've done countless times. Well, there was this 1999 HD Fatboy in Dark Green and I swung my leg over and put my butt in the seat and it was instant deja vu, familiarity! I never saw that bike in my life, but it was like we knew each other, right off the bat! "Where you've been?" "Miss ya', we could be splitting lanes on the freeway". It fit me, like an old pair of Levi's or a comfy pair of my shoes, like I rode it a thousand times. I regret not buying that bike. My Harley and I didn't get along and I should've just traded it in, right there and then. But ended up trading it for my C3 instead.

That's what you're looking for.

Look at wear on brake pedal right wear used to be with a miss aligned odometer like the one in the picture someone may have tampered with the speedometer .put it up on a hoist and look over frame and bushing wear .Just my 35 years and owning 18 C3's 2 cents worth

Brake pedal pads are not a reliable indication of current mileage. They are easily replaced. Just my opinion. Its going to be hard to find a "perfect" 68-72 corvette for a low price. (under 20k)
They're 43-47 yrs old. Restore one for yourself. Find out just how much money it takes to make it really nice. No one, and I mean no sane person is going to just give the damn thing away. Personally, Id die with mine before just accepting a low ball offer. I dont need the money. And Im sure most other serious corvette enthusiasts feel the same way. If you want a perfect car, you will pay. If you want something fun, something you can make your own, then inspect it, look for the rot that would kill the deal, look for the major issues that will cost big money, such as heavy body damage or terrible repairs. Use your best judgement. How much are you willing to pay? Its been said a decent paint job will cost $10k. I'd agree. Thats without a lot of body work. Figure that into your equation. No classic car is going to be perfect. I love going to car shows. The only really perfect cars I see have been meticulously restored. Their owners have either invested thousands of hours of their own time into restoring the car themselves or paid out the nose to have it done for them. Either way it boils down to time and money.
Im not saying this car is worth the money or not. It may well be, it would require an inspection. I learned a lot about corvettes buying and restoring my 72. As a professional mechanic, (earn my living turning wrenches) I felt reasonably confident in what I purchased. Yet still there were things I missed. But I knew what direction I was going before I ever even looked at the car. I felt confident that it was a solid platform to buid on. And it was. It still cost me a bundle of cash to do it. And truthfully it will cost even more, because youre never really done. So, take it from someone who's beeen there, and keep that in mind when looking at these cars. And heck yeah, I run across the right deal and I'll jump right in and do another. It will be even better!

I found this too. It is in the same town as the one this thread is about. I am going to go check it out too. That $7000 difference might be worth it. I can do a lot with $7000 or more.

Now add 20-30k to it and you'll have a great C-3

I think if you are interested in $10,000 cars you would be much happier with a 74-77, than a clapped out bumper car. If your budget is $20K I wouldn't waste my time looking at cars like this. Last year I sold a trophy winning low mileage 74 for $10,000. It was green with saddle and won multiple awards and looked nicer than anything you've shown us. However if you want a 68-72 in the same condition expect to pay at least $20K. I guarantee a car like this is going to be a headache. Trust me $7,000 doesn't go that far. Good luck.

You are doing the right thing by asking questions here but best advice is to drive it (in town and highway) smell it, wash it and smell it again. Then trust your instincts.

Remember, enjoy the hunt! Oh the stories we can tell of the ones that got away and the ones we passed on.

I already tried that in another of his threads. ZKP is not interested in the Mid C3's whatsoever. He's got to have the chrome. It's his choice and I respect that. We both know what a total bargain the Mid C3's are compared to their earlier brethren. It's all about choices.

The way I read that latest CL ad is they want 10,000 and the new owner to assume the lien of 5,000. Maybe I'm wrong....?

I'm pretty sure I'll pass on it but I figure the more I look at the better I get evaluating them. As for it being 10k plus lean payoff, maybe. If so then I will surely pass. I currently have 3 different ones I'm interested in. I might have a busy weekend driving across TX.

If you make it to Dallas I'll give you a hands on tutorial on what to look for and watch out for.
