Default 1978 Pace Car Question

I recently bought a 78 Pace car and I want to make the engine compartment look good. It has rust on the engine and a lot of the components have the white powder on them.

Can any one show pictures of a correct engine with the correct colors so I can detail everything. It is a L82.

Thanks,

Stephen

Thanks, good picture, very helpful. The engine on my car is showing blue paint and on the picture I cannot make out the color. I wonder if the L82 is blue?

I believe both the L48 and L82 block and heads were blue in 1978

Rocky's photo shows an L82. Both blocks, L48 and L82 are GM Corporate Blue but the L82 has aluminum manifold (painted) and aluminum valve covers. The L48 both items are corporate blue.

I took on a similar project with the engine for a 1978 L48 and documented with two threads here on the forum. You can follow what I did that was pretty close to matching that of factory except I went too heavy on the engine blue...paint thickness. Factory would only dust the blue paint on. But here are the links:

This thread shows disassembly, prep and finish:

Engine compartment Detailing

This thread shows assembly:

Engine Compartment Restoration Assembly

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the input, in particular hunt4cleanair. The link was great with all the pictures.

Now I have to get to work!

For $30, the NCRS "78-79 Corvette Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide" is a great source of information. The finish of almost every component of the engine and engine compartment, is described in the manual, along with similar information for the interior, exterior and chassis.
