retro fitting/replacing stock power window switch's
I have to replace old original power window switches in my 74, I took them apart & cleaned them as instructed on other posts & they still don't work + one case is cracked. I am not doing a restoration & the cars not original anyway so I was wondering if there are any other options for replacement. Can I retro fit an aftermarket (newer) style into my center console & if so what has anyone else used with success. I have read that the newer repop vette switches suck(?) so I thought I could use another GM style switch & just adapt the wiring & new switch to the console to fit .
any thoughts on the matter?

I agree that the new switches are below average. Mine making a popping noise when putting the windows up. I also had to glue one of them back together after the case fell off.
I can only suggest if you know a wrecking yard somewhere that you will be permitted to browse through some GM cars with power windows you might be able to match one that will be close. I had a 67 corvette that needed a switch for opening the headlight doors and didn't want to pay the $100. that the corvette dealers wanted . I found a switch that I could adapt out of a Pontiac for $5.00 . I made a wiring adapter so I didn't have to alter the original 67 wiring. It worked great .
