Default Lithuanian 80 Vette project

Hi all.

A Vette C3 was a second one on my must-have-car-list since my 16'een, so finally I bought one in Massachusetts and brought it to Lithuania. Now I am going to rebuild it.

It's a basic model with Goodwrench 350/290 and TH350, which I am going to swap in to 4 speed Muncie.

Finally home:

My plan is to rebuild it completely remaining with original look but going for a red paint instead of claret dark + adding some performance to suspension, brakes and engine.

Good luck with your project! I've got 4 C3 Vettes now, but probably need to downsize to two

PS. Jeigu ko reikes, rasyk. Sekmes.

I don't think there actually exists such a phenomenon like "too much of good cars"

While the car was on it's way home, I went shopping

Hooker SuperComps

This tranny was taken from 65 Corvette SB Convertible. I'm tend to believe it's a Muncie M20. Can anybody help me by confirming this?

Here are a few pics with castings. And the shaft has 10 teeth. Thanks in advance.

That's nice to hear that!

Shipping from Savanah coast to Lithuania is $700-$800 + loading charges. As a matter of fact I know occasions when people bring the cars from US to Lithuania in order to save on a restoration costs .

That's make sense - you shipped it via ground and it was dedicated shipping Meanwhile shipping overseas is a bulk one.

I traded a motorcycle for my car. The guy I traded with kicked in half, and gave the money to his uncle to pull the trailer here and back, with fuel and a bit of pay for his time, it was about right. Good luck with the car.

P.S Do you know what a "Kaldoonie"(spelling???)is? My great uncle had a bunch of funny little rhymes he would say in Lithuanian and he always called my brother and I by that word. We also cooked an old family recipe "kugle" a potato and bacon dish.

Koldūnai (Kaldoonay)

Kūgelis (Koogel)

And I see your full surname is Daugirdas - I have one mate who have the same surname in Lithaunia. It's an old pure natural Lithuanian surname. Translating your surname from Lithuanian to English literally sounds like "Hear much"

Congratulations and can't wait to see your progress.
Might I suggest you drive it for a while before unscrewing every nut and bolt?
Have a little fun and learn the car before you Go For It.

This was my initial plan, but there are such issues like poor-working brakes, worn-out bushings and steering rack that doesn't make the ride nice at all Therefore I decided to do the whole rebuild job in one go rather than partly disassemble the car now and then doing it again in winter for the complete job.

Decades ago I used to know an engineer from Lithuania sorry if I misspell his name but it was same as your first President after the SU broke up...... Bayliss Brasauskas he worked at a RCA tech support at the local TV distributor this back in the '60's....so yes, been a while....

He and I got along well, as I talked tech on his level, which surprised him...most guys didn't know how to change a vacuum tube....being as his degree was from his country, and being soviet dominated, no American engineering company could hire him for anything .gov work related....

Some of the guys in the tech training courses he was running, told me of an encounter across the support counter....some idiot didn't understand a most elementary point of electronic operation/theory.....

and made the mistake of arguing with Bayliss finally he drew back and pointed at the idiot, he says.....'You be FIRST AMERICAN......First I kill *****, then I kill Commies, and if you keep it up you be FIRST AMERICAN......

I asked Bayliss about this and he admitted it was true....we all laughing our asses off over it.....

Great story, thanks for sharing. Your friend Balys Brazauskas seemed to be one hell of a guy!

Over the years of my membership here, I have been contacted by 5 or 6 forum members, who were connected to Lithuania in one way or another. I even helped someone to trace the village, where his grandfather was born around 1920'ies. He was actually planning to come here during next Euro-trip with his family

Got the frame sand-blasted and rust-protected until welding job is done:

Sand-blasting reveals all the issues :

Shell goes for sand-bathing (for the underneath metal constructions) as well
