Default What is this?

I recently purchased a 72 coupe. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what this switch is for or if it even belongs in the car. It is a 3 position switch and it has power comming to it.

Hi Mb,
It's the switch for your rear window defroster. It was an option.

Alan

Thanks, I feel better knowing it at least belongs in the car.
If I turn the switch nothing happens. Do you know how it works?
Or what should happen.

Not an expert but most switches for defrost I've seen were black rocker style. Defroster is on driver side rear compartment looks like a hair dryer kinda hard to miss

Hi Mb,
Behind the seat under the side soft trim there's an old fashioned hair dryer that blows warm air on the rear window when the switch is turned.
Hard to tell with out taking a look why it's not working.
If you look at the C50 option pages in your AIM you'll see all the parts.
The systems parts vary depending on whether the car is a coupe or convertible.
Regards,
Alan

Mbuschsr: Order a reproduction owner's manual if you do not have an original with the car. There is a considerable amount of valuable information in the owner's manual.

The defogger switch pictured above by the OP is correct. That style **** was used on C3's from 1968 through all of 73 and 74's made thru approx. February 74. At which time the switch changed to the black rocker style you mention. Pictured below.

Jimmy
