Hey guys, I need some advice on removing the emblems, not for good, just for stripping and painting. The nose emblem was easy, just remove the nuts and pull it off. The side"Stingray" emblems, I can't tell what those studs do. Are they just guides and the emblems are held on with double stick tape? Can I cause damage if I do it wrong? Haven't looked at the rear emblem yet.
Hi B,
73?
The side scripts were held on with a black adhesive.
There were studs on the scripts. You need to feel for the studs by reaching into each side of the engine compartment to make sure someone hasn't put speed nuts on the studs at some time in the past.
The letters on the tail-light panel were held on with individual acorn nuts.
Regards,
Alan
For real sticky emblems, I will sometimes use some fishing line behind the emblem to "saw through" the sticky 2-sided tape after warming with a hair dryer. (I Usually do that on plastic emblems that could break), the metal emblems are a little more sturdy if you have to pry them. (But they sometimes can crack as well.

Yep, I agree and have used those methods on cars with simple sticky emblems, but I was concerned with the studs. I've never seen those before and didn't know if they were barbed or something. You guys are great, thanks!
Hi,
People who aren't fishermen often use dental floss in the same way as 76C3 uses line!

You know what? I don't even fish! On a side note: They make something called Dental Floss??? I've been using fishing line on my teeth all of these years!
