Default 1972 fuel pump codes

I have what I believe to be the original AC fuel pump that I took of my 1972 small block. It is no. 40769 which the NCRS Technical Manual says is correct. Anyone know what the numbers that come first are? Date code?(029R 40769). Just curious.

Hi P,
I believe information about those digits and letter is still being gathered, but many folks think it may be a Julian date (3 digits) and a letter for the year.
???
When was your car built?
Regards,
Alan

This is on a car built in mid-January 1971.
So PERHAPS the 357th day of 1970?

Hi Phil,
That's just about 1 year after mine. My trim tag indicates the 14th, so I think it came off the line the 15th or 16th.
I don't know enough to respond in any meaningful way about your 'date'.
If its a Julian date I'd expect the digits to be lower than 13 (earlier in January) or much higher, (later in 1971).
The fuel pump went on the engine in ST.LOUIS so it's possible it could be quite close to the car's build date, but certainly not after it.
So like I said????
Regards,
Alan
