I purchased a new rear storage compartment when I had my new carpet put in last year. At the time, I noticed there was a hole in the old middle storage compartment which I discovered is where a light should be mounted at. I checked and also found wiring that appeared to go to the missing light.
Well I purchased a new bulb for this area and noticed that where I thought my old rear compartment had a hole, there is not one on my new setup.
Is this the correct spot for a bulb setup and how do you mount it if so? does a hole need to be drilled?
Here is the new bulb setup I purchased.
Also there is a picture of an odd wiring harness attached to my original which I removed. Not sure what it was for.
Hi Jim,
Here's a picture that might guide you to the location of the hole that needs to be drilled in the door frame.
The 'prongs' on the lamp body right under the plunger help hold it firmly in place.
Regards,
Alan
Note the perimeter of the original hole was slightly 'serrated' to help grip the lamp's body.
Whoa, I just realized something with your picture. I am missing the rear center compartment box liner. Mine is just open and desnt have a place to hold lens or the cylindrical cover. Are there any liners for the right or left side I have missed. My original part didn't have any liners either. How does it mount to the plastic frame?
Hi Jim,
The jack compartment on the right side has a removable flocking covered fiberboard 'tray'. The jack and tool were stowed under it in the bottom of the fiberglass underbody.
The liner for the glovebox is also flocked but is more like a dense cardboard material. It's clipped in place under the door frame and isn't removable without lifting the entire frame.
Regards,
Alan
one of 2 clips that hold the glove box liner up tight against the bottom of the door frame.
The jack compartment tray. (There are plastic trays available too.)
It looks like I need the center box (2826), center box lens(36811) and passenger side box(2629). I have found part #s at corvette america. I didn't notice any hardware type clips for the center box to fasten to the underside.
Are they some kind of common clips you can get anywhere or something more uncommon?
Also, did I understand you correctly, the passenger side box just sits in the tray and can be easily removed?
Edit- the pictures you had didn't load up for me when I wrote this but they do help. I got my part numbers from corvette america, it looks like there jack liner is plastic. Do people sell the original style also?
Hi jim,
Yes, the lip on the jack compartment tray rests on the lip around the opening in the door frame. The originals have holes in their sides for fingers to help lift the tray out.
There are fiberboard trays being reproduced.
I'm not sure if the clips for the glove box installation are available or not?
Regards,
Alan
Here's the clip. One side clips to the liner's edge and the other to the frames lip.

I searched high and low for those clips.
I finally found them at Heartbeat city. Part ELC-1313 - "Trunk light harness clip set" for a 1967-1968-1969 Camaro.
They come 3 in a package but two are required for the tray according to the AIM I have.
Wow that is an awesome find. Maybe we can have some of our corvette vendors start selling some so we don't have to by camaro parts. I will be ordering them soon for sure.
A few years ago, one of the vendors sent me a part that wasnt mine and I mentioned it to them and they said just keep it. Ive tried to give it away because I didnt think it was for my car.
Find out yesterday it is the exact part number I needed for the center felt glove box, so that was a nice score.
BTW how does the lens sit in the glove box? just glue it in?

To mount it you match a drill to the bulb holder size. Drill your frame where Alan showed you. Then push the wire into the hole, then the holder without the bulb installed. The plunger points up and is pushed in by the door. The wiring should come through the "wall" near where the bolt for the center console is attached.
I made it to the next stage of this project after a few screw ups on ordering.
I bought the s shaped clips to hold on the glove box and have come to a snag.
How does the clip attach to the storage compartment ?
It clips on easily to the cardboard liner but the compartment structure does is flat and cant be connected to.
Forgot to add pics. The clip looks to be mating a two vertical pieces. The insert is vertical but the tray is horizontal. Am I supposed to bend the cardboard to mate up with plastic of the storage unit?

That would need mirrored surfaces to work. If you place the doors on top and look in, is there horizontal lips to connect them together. My setup is screwed together.
After looking at your pics alot, will the lid ,when placed correctly in that area, nest into the compartment liner so you could screw into the sides?

Unless I'm missing something. I think it does look like obvious screw them in but Dang I paid for those darn clips. according to posted pictures the insert is correct, is my aftermarket compartment incorrect?
Hi Jim,
It's a real 'custom fit'!!!!
The sides of the 'liner' with the clips in place slide into the grooves between the frame's openings!
The clips make it a tight fit so the liner stays up against the frame.

Alan
