Sounds like a satisfying temp patch job. But, remember that a main reason that GM went to a metal floor in the mid-70's was because the fiberglass floor couldn't handle the new exhaust/cat converter heat.
And, the reference to modifying metal seat belt restraining supports with fiberglass and thinking it would protect anything is worthy of Darwin - but, worry about innocent, trusting loved ones who you may let drive it someday. Or, if you're tempted to sell it luke that. Scary talk no matter what.
I've got true duals with no cats, so the heat is manageable.
The seat belt supports were in rather decent shape, just a couple small holes that I sealed up with the glass to keep water/debris out. Your concern was also my first thought... safety. I feel the structural integrity in that area is sufficiently safe. I appreciate you bringing up that point. Of course I will feel better about everything once I get the entire new metal pans in. Thanks!
I sincerely feel for you about your floor I have rust on my passenger side but not too bad. I am glad to hear people talking about patching it because that is what I want to do also. I dont mind paying 300$ for a new floor pan but I dont think I could find a shop who would want to put it in.
WOW! I just picked up a "project" 80 corvette and my floors are a little breezy. Thanks for the awesome temp fix instructions. Pretty sure this will get me through until I get to put in metal floors. Looking forward to picking the collective brains on here as I take on this winter project!
