Someone tried to steal the Coy wheels and Rivals from my 70 parked outside my Condo last night.
They took off the lug nuts from one front wheel & must have got spooked and left.
Went to drive to an autocross today & wheel fell off.
Not a good day.
No body damage but checking what else. Rim ruined for sure.

I doubt that they wanted the wheels or they would have got them. Probably just punks wanting to do damage to your car.
Slept on the couch next to the front door with blinds part open & my 357.
Will do so for a while.
Of course one can't shoot unless threatened with a weapon. lol!!!!

king1..: Sorry for your troubles..I am particular about where and when and for how long I leave my '78 parked...I never worried much about my other vehicles over the years.but the '78 Corvette is different..
Shucks.I may be old school..BUT I ALWAYS check, tires, wheels, lights B4 I take ANY of our vehicles out..and the vette especially so.
OLD safety habits die hard..but it's better than you or your vehicle dying..or getting broke down because of something simple..
I don't check under the hood every time I fire up the C3...but I do look beneath, watch the gauges and do a periodic check under hood..Jim

Sorry to hear, glad your ok, no respect for others property. If you leave the car outside and cannot always keep an eye on it, pull the coil wire so she will not run, it's is a pain to always put it on when you want to go but we should be checking our cars underneath the hood more often anyway.
And go buy a drop cam and it will alert your phone when there is motion
I was always told by my father- after you shot 'em - just pull them back in your house!!!
Whatever you do, DON'T do that! You will have enough of a mess on your hands legally for defending yourself and your property in today's liberal gun hating politcally correct society, definitely don't want to tamper with a "crime" scene. The thief being the criminal in our eyes; the thief's lawyer may see it very differently. Don't ask how I know.

As former Army spec ops and leo and private citizen..I have employed deadly force more times than I care to recall.
No matter how justified one is..using deadly force takes it's toll on a person...
For the private citizen..the repercussions civilly can be very costly even if no criminal action is warranted..
Best to do one's best to deter thieves and criminals..apply situational awareness..and common sense..jim
I was a jury foreman in a trial where the defendant claimed self defense. We unanimously found him guilty of 2nd degree murder. I cannot imagine using a gun to defend your car and thinking you will get away with it.

Car jackng with a child in the car for one. I read about one like that. Think it was in Utah or a southern state. Theres a big difference in mentalities from state to state. Castle doctrines/ stand your ground ( utah)vs retreating.
But in general, someone stealing a car from in front of your house isnt going to fly if you shoot them. We were joking. Maybe when Biden becomes president we can just shoot shotguns into the air to scare them off
Go to a sporting goods store and get a game camera. (around $100) they have an infrared flash which can not be seen and shoot in bursts set off by motion and mounts anywhere like in a tree so you should be able to get a good picture of who it is and get this freak off the streets.
