76 power window stuck at bottom

Default 76 power window stuck at bottom

I have scoured the threads only to find lots of dead ends on this topic.....I have a motor that needs replaced on the driver side. I know the procedure and about locking the mechanism in place - but my window is stuck all the way down.

How on earth do I get the window out or pulled up (preferably)? I can't seem to find a link on how to get the power window up in order to proceed with the motor swap.

Any help would be great.

I think your best bet is to detach and remove the window and then remove the window gear and motor as one piece. Unless you're certain that the motor is the problem, there is a good chance that the gear is bad. Possibly both. In any case, I think it's easier and safer to remove it as a unit.

this is my issue - is there a trick that allows me to move the window from being stuck at the bottom so that I can pull everything out. There are no access holes to get to the bolts holding the glass to the brackets.....or am I simply trying to get in there with a swivel and extension....with no room to work - lol?

I understand you. The motor won't move and it's holding you from pulling the window up. You need to detach the motor's gear from the gear on the window regulator. The window regulator is the large X shaped metal that raises and lowers the window. I had a similar problem but not the same. Try and remove the 3 screws facing you off the motor. Those are covering where the regulator gear meets the power motor gear. Then you should be able to pull out the gear on the motor. Hopefully that frees up your regulator and allows you to manually pull the window up.

As you said you'll be careful with lockout. I smashed a finger in the "mouse trap" when I let the spring go. Careful in that area. haha

From my experiences....

When the window is stuck in the down position...and I have tried using my battery charger on the 200 amp setting while tapping on the motor to excite it and get it to move. If that does not work.

Trying to get the three bolts that hold the motor housing to the regulator is pointless due to the glass is in the way....what I have found is you have to take the end of the power window motor off the housing that is bolted to the regulator. Then manually turn the armature to get the window to go up so you can remove teh galls and then the regulator.

You can service the window motor with the regulator in place...but it does take some patience and making sure you set the motor caged correctly.

KEEP IN MIND....IF you remove the motor housing form the regulator....and then remove the door glass. The regulator will go UP due to the spring on it that aids in raising the door glass. SO...if you do that. It can make it MUCH MUCH harder for you to get the regulator out due to having to fight with the spring tension trying to push the regulator arm up.

So if I remove the 2-3 long mount bolts on the end of the motor that gets me access to crank it by hand? This is what I am hopeful of I want to make sure I can remove these without releasing the spring?

I believe there is one additional regular bolt on the bottom of the motor that connects to the regulator if memory serves right. Assuming I can crank by hand to get the window up - I get it to a point where I can insert a bolt to hold the regulator spring from releasing. Then I can remove the bottom bolt to pull the motor and swap it out?

I have no desire to remove the glass - I just want to swap out the motor but was uncertain how to get the window up to hold the coil spring.
