Is the center gauge cluster bezel finish "smooth" or "textured"? My car is a Dec 71 production, so I take it that it's a "middle of the run" car, and does not qualify as an early or late production unit, which I say just to enable whether it is a RMC (rolling model change) car. I know it's really hard on a car that is over 40 years old, to find an "original owner" car where it's whole life can be documented, but if any members can assure the originality I'd appreciate information about this (production month & maybe last 5 of the VIN (mine is 09502)). Thanks
Textured. 68 was the only year for smooth bezels. You've made several posts concerning originality. The NCRS 70-72 Technical Information and Judging Guide would be a big help for you. Brand new edition.

69-71 Corvettes all used the same gauge bezel. It had a grained finish, and a button on the top left marked "PUSH", to turn off the seat belt light. 72-76 Corvettes used a similar bezel, but the seat belt light was on a timer, so the seat belt button was eliminated.

Hi,
Not only has the 68 bezel become valuable, so have the original 69-71 bezels if unbroken.
Original 69-71 bezels the bar between the the seat belt light and button is cast as part of the face of the bezel.
The only reproduction bezel available is the 72+ style without the switch, so there's no bar.
In order to make that bezel 'sell-able' to 68-71 car owners a bar is glued in place to simulate the original appearance. It's not convincingly done.
Regards,
Alan
It would have been better to strip ALL paint from the part before re-painting. You will always be able to see where the paint was worn off prior to the re-paint....especially with glossy paint.
Hi RR,
I'd be very interested in seeing a close-up of the exposed chrome edge at at the 'break'.
On the bezels I've repaired, dealing with that 'line' that remains in the plating has been the problem.
Curious what you did?

Alan
