Default 1969 Rear Clip Value $$$

Considering buying this rear clip. It comes with the doors and T-tops. Underside has been cleaned, repaired at seat belt mounts and then painted. I didn't care for the paint but this wouldn't be an NCRS restoration. Only buying it for future use to build a car for fun. The rocker channels appear to be in excellent condition which can be a troublesome area as we all know. Windshield frame appears to be in very good condition. The reinforcements in the floor have been removed, cleaned and reinstalled. Asking price is $2,500.00 and he's pretty firm on it. Thoughts and opinions ?

that's not just a rear clip ! that's near enough to a whole car.

only possible problem would be the VIN number which should be riveted on the windscreen surround Not sure on your states solution if it doesn't have one.

There is no VIN with the car. The owner cleary stated that to me and I'm fine with that.

Yes, it is more than a "rear clip" HA. But still no VIN....

I have been getting some chuckles lately at some asking prices and then prices paid for chrome years stuff but I have seen old ragged out rear bumper caps for chromies asking not too much less that 2500 also in the last few months i have seen things like this but crappy looking under 800.00..If you can use most or all its likely not a bad deal if you have the toad pelts

if no VIN and therefor no title, just make sure you are using it only for its parts. that body 'should' have a VIN so be careful about it's history.

if the metal is good then that is a reasonable price.

Hi Ned,
I think you need to be careful.
Here's why….. you seem to be getting ready to build a car from scratch. That sounds like fun!
You were looking at a very nice (but bare) frame for $2500 and now are looking at what appears to be a very nice firewall back body for $2500.
If you had both you'd have a start to a car….. but you'd have $5000 in just PART of a car that still needs LOTS ($$$) more parts and doesn't have a VIN.
I think I'd be looking for a $10,000 COMPLETE car and be ahead financially.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

What comes with that body? Are the doors complete or empty? What about the tops, do they have latches, moldings and headliners, or are they bare? Are the windshield moldings included? What about the removable rear window? No heater box, interior panels, wiper motor, etc., all these things add up quick, and can get expensive.

$2,500 seems pretty strong to me. Coupe clips (center floor back) are pretty easy to find, and often sell for less than $1000. Nice 2 handle T-Tops rarely sell for more than $100-$200 a pair, and complete doors can be had for $200 each. The body looks to be in nice shape, and includes the cowl and windshield frame, but I still wouldn't figure it to be worth much more than $1500. At least that's my opinion, for what it's worth.

Then there's the missing VIN tag and title. If there was a title with the body, I might be inclined to value it higher. Without a title, you're just opening up yourself for all kinds of legal issues. In most states, if not all, it's illegal to remove, tamper with, or transfer a VIN tag from one car to another.

I'm with Alan, I think you'd be far ahead buying a complete project car.

Alan, I do agree with you, I don't plan on building one from scratch. I was going to buy the frame just to put in my garage attic since a new one is 4000 and that frame was 2500. Seems crazy to store a new frame but I'm sure I would use it in the future or at least be able to make a few bucks on it.
The rear clip is for a complete car that I have and plan on restoring after I'm done with this one. The bird cage and rocker channels, not to mention alot of other areas are very bad, so I bought the complete running driving car for a very good price. I'm sure it will be a while before I get to it but I have plenty of dry storage area.

Well I bought it today for 2300. It came with both complete doors that are in excellent shape and T-tops are complete. The bird cage is the best one I've ever seen but I haven't seen many to be honest. I have seen a lot on here that need a lot of work though. The rocker channels are also in excellent condition. As I replied to Alan this is a swap out on a whole car I bought at a very good price because the bird cage is shot on it. Hard to believe because the frame is great on it. I might have paid a little too much according to your value but it is very clean. The underside was cleaned and some repairs made along with all metal reinforcements were removed, blasted and reinstalled. All old adhesives were removed from inside too. This would all be work I would have to do so the little extra I paid should be worth it.

Hi Ned,
With the additional details you posted it sounds like you made a good decision.
From the photos it appears that it's a nice complete clip!
Carry On!

Alan

Except for some light surface rust I removed with sandpaper and a wire wheel the windshield frame and body mounts look great. I'm going to put some primer on everything and put it in dry storage. This is for a future project and could be a while before I start on it.

I already have a complete car I bought cheap with a VIN and that the birdcage is complete trash. Iguess technically you're not allowed to switch the VIN Plate but I don't think the Pennsylvania State Police are going to come looking for me.

Well, Hang on to this posting so a few years down the road whoever it is can let the Pennsylvania State Police know that I switched a VIN from one car to the shell of another. When that time comes let me know, I'll give you my address. Something tells me they won't be coming right over with lights and sirens on.

Hi Ned,
It looks like a nice solid birdcage!
Regards,
Alan

Did it appear the vin tag was in place when the original black-out was done on the a-pillar?
Could you tell?
