Hi, quick basic question.
69 stock L-46 350/350
Which wire on my distributor is for #1 cyllinder to use for timing light?
(since I can't easily trace wires to engine without removing shielding)
Thanks
Hi David,
It really depends on how the wires were placed…. but 'typically' this one.
Give the wire end at the spark plug a little tug and usually there's just enough 'slack' that you can feel the tug at the distributor end of the wire.
Regards,
Alan
if I can get to it
assume that is driver's side, closest to front of car?
I say that becouse you can install the dizzy in a way so it can still run right but the cap is not in the correct way to all the books. So trace the wire from the spark plug back

Hi David,
As others have indicated, this is the plug wire location for the spark plug for the no. one cylinder.
If the forward horizontal radio shielding is in place it will be difficult to reach.
If you feel you need to be sure the horizontal shield is held in place by 2 chrome plated winged studs… so is easy to remove and replace.

Alan

the wire that goes just under the bracket screw threaded hole is #1 then going clockwise next is #8 which is last one in back on pass side then #4 then #3 then #6 then #5 then #7 and #2
looking at your picture appears to be in correct order as side to side
Wes
Pick a wire at the rear of the engine( 7 or 8) that can be easily traced from the dissy to the plug. Then reverse the firing order (1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2) to find the #1 wire.
