Default Engine question

I think I have a bit of a mystery on my hands and would love whatever help the forum can provide. My car is not a numbers matching car as far as I know. I haven't looked for the numbers around the oil filter yet, so my knowledge is somewhat incomplete, but.....

The casting number on the block is 3970010 which comes back as a 68-80 350 (give or take a year on either side depending on whose website you're looking at). The stamp, however is V0902MT which comes back as a 67 Camaro. Any thoughts?

Could be Camaro. From Google: "The 350 cu in...first appeared as a high-performance L-48 option for the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro."

Hi UV,
The "Lime Book" describes it a little further:
MT… 295 h.p., 4 barrel, AIR, manual transmission, used in Camaro.
Regards,
Alan

Thanks for the quick replies! This forum rocks!

I should have been clearer with my question. What I'm confused about is the discrepancy in years. 3970010 being 68 or 69 as first year of production and the stamp indicating that it is from Sept. with the MT suffix indicating 67. Any further input is much appreciated!

An engine assembled in September, 1967 was, in all likelihood, ordered for a 1968 model year vehicle.

UV

What is the casting date on the block? The 3970010 block was cast for 10 years so it has a lot of possible usages.
