You're all wrong... The pecking order is:

1) My '79, modified, black, can't beat it...
2) Other black, modified, manual Corvettes.
3) Other black Corvettes.
4) All other Corvettes.

So there!

- Those are clearly production cars. If pseudo-production cars like the 63 Grand Sports were added to the list, they would clearly vault to number 1.
- I would not rank the 67 L71 behind the 68/69 L89 regardless of the aluminum heads. 67s still significantly trump any 68/69 from a perception standpoint.
- As long as you are being specific to fairly low production cars, I would rate the 63 Z06s after the 68/69 L88 cars.
- I'm not sure if you were counting correctly as there is no "8", but the 71 LS6 deserves a spot - I would place it above the 68/69 L89s (but below the 67 L71. (Keep in mind that some 67 L71s are more valuable than others. If you find a black with blue stinger 67 L71, it would encroach upon, if not exceed the prices for the 68/69 L88s - yes they are that valuable in the market - color is a big determinant in value for 67 big blocks).
So far, everyone who responded to this thread expressed an opinion,, and seemed to be having fun.

Until now...

My thread ( numbering mistake excluded) was intended to express my opinion, from the standpoint of performance, Not value. Rich guys and dreamers talk about value. Not racing history. Not low production numbers.

And guess what; I owned 4 of these so I can speak from actual experience. I didn't intend to start an argument or debate, but I expected that someone would chime in to disagree.

All of your choices are based on auction value. Have a nice life.

Paul 74's pic of his 74 'vert made me aware of the attractive bumper styling for that year.

I think the look of the 74 is a close second to the chrome models.

Front 74 bumper is definitely nicer than the 75's and the latter 80's, but I'm not crazy about the looks of the split rear bumper cover.

Anybody have any pics of the bumper innards for this model year? This must be the only year with this style given the 73 and 75's are so different.

OK I have a C5 love it. C2's rule the roost, C3's up to 1972 and then C5's, 6's and 7's are all great

Slow down, before you lump people together, racers are almost always worth more than their non racer counterpart, so pot meet kettle,
And go back and read my reply, i denounced any pecking order saying all c3s are equal, even if some specific ones are worth more or nicer condition,
They are all just c3s.

Of course, this is entirely subjective, unless the only criterion is value. Or maybe performance. Those are measurable.

For a possible combination of those two factors, many consider the mid-year C2's to be the best. Aesthetically, it's hard to deny their beauty. And the fact that there were only five model years increases their value in the sense that there are probably fewer examples left on the road today. Other generations had longer runs.

When it comes to the non-measurable, my pecking order starts and stops with the one in my garage, and the one I used to own. So it's a two-Vette pecking order!

Like I posted in another thread, if someone wanted to steal it I'd toss them the keys and save them the trouble.

I do however feel that the earlier cars are a bit snubbed by the C5 and C6 car owners but what they forget is that without those older cars, their would be no later cars.

. . .

IMHO.

Yes, it's all our HO.

And yes, most who aren't kidding around will say that there is no pecking order, meaning a top down order.

However, there does seem to be some consensus by some that the C4 is at the bottom of the mythical pecking order. Well, the ignorant Corvette owners might feel that way, imo.

How they can not like a Corvette that put Corvettes back on the map (international racing competition-wise, that is) after the government mandated choke hold of the 70's and 80's, is beyond me.

When I had my '96 LT4, I got the impression that C5 and C6 drivers didn't necessarily love the C4. Of course, this is based on several Corvette Forum threads, and the lack of a return when I provided "the Wave."

The C4 is in a sense, a victim of its own success. So popular and heralded at the time, that many, many were produced. Not always well cared for, so a lot of the ones left on the road are in deplorable condition. (deplorable... hehehe...) Plus of course, the early ones didn't have the raw power that their predecessors had, or their successors have.

All that said, as far as I'm concerned, C3's are Corvettes - everything else is a mistake... :-)
