Default 1971 Rag Top Restore

Well the weather is starting to turn so over the weekend I built a frame dolly and separated the body from the neglected frame. From the looks of the past attempts at repair and the long list of needs this will take some time. So pop a top and see just what all awaits me ahead as I try to get this old car back to its former glory. I am sure that I will be asking a lot of questions as I progress ahead with this build.

Hi 02,
A 71 convertible!!!!
That makes for quite a nice and worthwhile restoration project.
Have you restored a car before? If so you know you'll need to keep a large supply of time and effort on hand! Plus, at least some $$$, and a bit of blood.
Good Luck as you get going!
Regards,
Alan

That is some serious pegboard inside your garage.

Good luck on your project! Looks like you have already been around the block once or twice, judging by the Camaro peeking out of the other garage.

Are you sure you have a 71 ? They only used amber turn signal lenses on the front of the 72's .

no tank sticker ? looks like the first time that body has come off ,and wow that tank looks BAD or is that mainly dirt?

also looks like someone shoved a new fuel line in at some time ?

the control arms look so much better. Is the trick to media blast them and then paint them or is alot of this new? How much did you have to replace. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can so if I ever decide to do this, I know what I'm getting into. First I need a garage where I can do this.

Thanks

Dean

Yes tank was very bad. No hint of the tank sticker remained. The fuel and brake lines both were spliced in the back half and the fuel line has signs of rubbing the body.

Well the motor is starting to look like something. Found the old Cal-Custom covers and have them painted up. Next is some prep work to the body and then maybe i can start to put some things back together.

Both #4 Body mounts changed out. Used Stainless hardware over the rivets. Should last longer than me!!
