Default C3 door

This is likely a ridiculously simple question... When we purchased our 68 vette, it came with 2 extra doors. The doors have the push button, which I assume means it will be specific to a 68, but the holes for the rear view mirror are not in the correct location. I am in the process of stripping the door to replace my badly rusted passenger door, and it occurred to me I should ensure there is no risk this door is incompatible with my 68. No, I have not tried to "fit" the door yet. Any other specifics to tell me this door will fit my 68 convertible?

Thank you for answering this basic question. I have learned the hard way, sometimes the seemingly "simple" can be quite confusing.

Pretty sure the early C3's did not come from the factory with a mirror on the passenger door. That may be why the holes are off.

The door will fit. On the LH door early 68 cars had the mirror toward the front of the door. Later cars they moved the mirror back a little, also no factory mounted mirror on the RH door.

I believe the passenger side mirror became a "dealer installed option" in 1973. I'm not sure when they became a factory installed option.

How did you come out with your repairs in your earlier posts?

Correct. 68 only. The passenger's side mirror was added by a previous owner.

Which repair? I have done a few over the last few months. The rocker panel tabs came out great, still working on the fiberglass repairs. Had to take a break due to hubby having surgery :o)

I was asking about the repairs after the shop damaged your car. There was a long thread regarding the issue a while back.

When you buy a right hand mirror (at least when I put one on my car) it came with a template to position it correctly. The one in your picture is waaaay off. You could just take it off and fill the holes and go without one like it came in '68.

Push button doors are only found on the '68 so you should have no problems. I don't think there are any differences between coupe and convertible doors.

They did an OK job with the repairs. We have had issues with the car running correctly so we have spent more time having the shop deal with that issue.

I don`t know if this applies to 1968 or not... but I`ll just throw it in here as a "caution"......
when I ordered the wrong window felt & trim for my 71 coupe, it didn`t fit. I mistakenly ordered for a convertible. There was an inch or two difference in at least that part.
Check with somebody who knows for sure if the coupe & vert doors are the same, OR if other parts will interchange.

There was no 'factory mounted' RH mirror until the mid-70's. If you wanted a RH mirror, the dealership installed it.

Your car may have been in the group with forward-mounted LH mirror from the factory. The receiving dealer would have installed a RH mirror in the same location, if it was on the order to add it.

You can keep the original mirror location if you want it to be NCRS correct. Or you can move it to the 'better' location, if you choose.

Yes this was the case with my 1968 convertible, it had a very early serial number and dealer installed passenger side mirror in the forward location, SO, check with the NCRA experts here to know what serial number changed the mirror location towards the rear of the car, if you want a correct location for yours,,, Enjoy your restoration!!!

save the parts out of your old 68 door for the locks and latches. The lock parts are hard to come by and wont take up too much room in your garage.

Thank you. What pictures could I post that would help identify if this was from a conv. or coupe? The glass in this door is in much better shape, would prefer to use the glass in the donor door, but need to know if it will work in the conv.

Hi c1n,
The rear edge of the convertible window is sloped noticeably forward while the rear edge of the coupe glass is nearly vertical.
Here's a photo on which you can compare the difference.
Regards,
Alan

Alan,

I think you would have a picture for "How to figure out a woman!"... we all know there is no answer or image for that one.

At some point, CF should present you with HIP (helpful image poster) award! I'm a visual learner, wish you had been my algebra teacher back in the day!!!!!
