Excited Soon To Be C3 Owner!
I'm so excited right now I can hardly stand it! I can't wait for delivery of my C3.
A bit of background. I'm retired and have had a lifelong love of cars. I have owned more than 50 cars in that time span, including a '69 Vette, 350/350hp 4 speed. Sold it in the late '70s as I didn't have any money to finish it.
I was shopping for a car that will be my 60th Birthday present. I was looking for a first gen Trans Am, another car I owned in the past, when I spotted a C3 for sale. Contacted the owner and worked out a deal. Car will be shipping from California to Florida next week!
She's a 1969 Coupe, 427/390, 4 speed, loaded with AC, tilt telescope wheel, power windows leather, etc. Numbers matching drivetrain one old repaint in the correct Daytona Yellow. Car sold in new in San Jose and spent 6 years in Reno. One family since early 80s. Smog stuff is still in place and the car looks very original, no aftermarket parts, no backyard modifications.
I thought really hard about flying out and driving her back, but at $1500 for enclosed shipping, I couldn't justify the time, money and risk to the car. Also the AC need a charge and Freon is apparently verboten in California. I couldn't see driving a big block Vette through AZ, NM and TX right now without it.
Picture will be posted when she gets here!

Congratulations on the new C3. I think you made the right decision about not driving this car cross country. The car may have some issues that need to be dealt with that maybe the previous owner did not know about. For example, one thing I found out about my C3 the first time I drive it was that the tires were 15 years old, even thought they looked new. That did not turn out well. Luckily I was only driving 25 miles an hour at the time.
Good luck with the new Vette.
Good luck with the new Vette.

This car has the same issue. Tires are like new but more than 10 years old. The spare is the original. I'm sure that would work well...

I've got a C5 car that I use for HPDE events. I know it's light years ahead of the C3 but I love the presence of an early C3. There are a million C5-7 cars on the road here. Exotic cars are a daily sight. I can't recall the last time i saw any C3, let alone a 427 on the street.

Hi m,
I can understand how excited you must be!!!
Are you saying you bought it without seeing it in person or having a knowledgable person look at it for you? (I hope not!)
Regards,
Alan

Shoot, if I were retired, I'd be driving that puppy back myself! No matter, that's your call obviously, and I'm jealous that you got a big block 69! Congrats and can't wait for the pics.

Sounds like a nice car. I also have 390 4 speed ac car. Its a 3.08 car and very well mannered for highway driving, but has loads of torque to remind you its a 427.
Post some pics if you can. If you need anything, let me know. I am very familiar with this combination as I have done both NCRS and Bloomington judging with my car.

I think you made the right decision not to drive a car that you have not yet know to be dependable , let alone driving an old car across some of the hottest states with a big block engine. I wouldn't even want to imagine breaking down in those areas in a corvette .

Very exciting. I do think that you made the right decision to have it shipped until you get to sort it out. Good luck with your purchase. Will be watching for pics.

Congratulations and happy birthday. I like the way you think. I picked up my 60th BD present earlier this month, a 2001 Torch Red Vert. We ain't getting any younger. Live your dream now!

Congrats
Congrats on the new arrival. Since you are in Florida, consider getting a 69 license plate. You can get them at most of the big Florida shows. FL DMV makes it easy to register the period correct tags. Jerry
