Not sure what it is for. I don't see it in the assembly manual, nor does it appear to be available as a part from some of the vendors. Appears to be factory with a part number. I searched it but to no avail.

Here's the piece that was cut out to insert. Found it under the carpet.

on the t-top vette that is where the blower motor for the rear defogger goes.
in the aim for my 69 it is on sheet C50-A3. page 318.

Don't recognize it . Does look like factory bonding though. Sorry.

Hi 73BB,
I agree with old boat. It's the bump out to protect the rear window defogger blower motor. Something the way that they just left the cut out piece lay in the car. I assume this is on a 73 coupe? Here is the diagram from my 73 AIM showing the measurements for the cut out etc.
Is there a little metal vent on your rear deck inside the back window (or a cut out where one once was?)?That would confirm the car came with the defogger option. You could also check the left side console extension for a round silver metal ****. That controls the defogger.
Hope this helps clarify things!

Thank you for the information. I see I was in the wrong area in the assembly manual. There was nothing I came across in relation to a fan motor. In fact, there's carpet glue inside and on the front of the pocket. No fan assembly, wiring, or ducts to the rear window. I couldn't remember seeing a **** on the console pieces, so I dug them out of the bin. Not to say a previous owner didn't eliminate all the hardware, but maybe the car just didn't have it? I'm going to leave it as is.....but wonder if it was ever installed.
