I am thinking about getting the motor rebuilt (hopefully) or replaced as it goes up very sluggishly. the window on that side has also scraped on the weather stripping and has what looks like streaks or scratches on it. I am inclined to go ahead and replace weather stripping in both windows whiel I am at it. The window is original and still has the "Astro Ventilation" markings on it.
Is there any way to get rid of those streaks on the window without replacing it? I do not want to lose the "Astro Ventilation" markings on the window by buying an aftermarket piece.
Hi c,
Several suppliers sell kits to use to remove 'marks' on the glass.
It's a polishing process that takes a long time (hours).
Generally people report that if the scratch can catch your fingernail it can't be completely removed. But polishing it rounds the edges of the scratch so the light doesn't catch it so easily so it's not so obvious.
There are vendors selling new side glass that has the Astro logo and also the manufacturer's logo and date.
as the faithful have said you can lessen it but not fully remove it,i tried real hard.i solved the problem by driving with the windows open and because i am claustrophobic it worked for me.
I had wiper blade scratches on my '55. Bought a scratch removal kit from J.C. Whitney. It worked but it took a lot of time and patience. It came with a hard cylindrical polishing pad on an arbor that fits an electric drill. Also came with a jar of brown compound.

I had some good scratches on the passenger window of my old C5. I had a tub of polishing paste and figured it couldn't hurt to try it. Took some time and elbow grease, but I was very pleased with the results.
If you have vertical scratches on the side windows, the felt bumpers are not adjusted properly or the felt is 'shot'. You need to get those fixed or a repaired [or new] window will do the same thing.
Yes they are being replaced along with the new window motor.

Update: After a thorough cleaning and some light polishing, it seems my streaks were not scratches at all. My passenger side window now looks like new on the outside. The inside was already OK. Along with the new motor, I am going to replace the outer rubber seals and I would also like to replace the inside part. Does anyone know what that part is called on the inside that the window sides up and down on?

I believe they're called "front vertical track" and "rear vertical track". I have not seen them for sale by the vendors. If the window struggles up but goes down quickly then the assist spring is most likely broken. Cleaning and relubrication of the entire mechanism is probably called for as well.
