Default New covers for door panels

Does anyone make new covers for the door panels? My door panels are original and strong but were recovered with learther. When I removed the leather covering the original black covering was underneath but covered in glue. I was looking to restore them since everyone says they fit better than repo. I looked around but could find anyone selling just new door leather or nogahide. Anyone restore their originals with new covers?

I have the skins but boy they are a royal pain to install..

Every bad spot must be cut out.. then reformed using silicone glue... once you squirt the silicone on the panel then you use an ice cube to smooth it out... the silicone won't stick to the ice cube so it makes a nice smooth finish when done.

However, I'm not having any issue with our panels fitting... They are a tiny bit out at the bottom and the velcro fasteners that GM used never stuck to the door assembly anyway. So when I install the new panels I install the lower clips, then use an awe to pull the panel to the hole and then insert the screw.

When we install new door panels in the shop, the door lock **** can be tricky to get in place but we put the lock **** on the control, then place a hard rubber mallet over the **** and then hammer it with another hammer. This trick works every time and the lock **** actually helps pull the panel inward.

IMHO,

Willcox

Have you tried removing the residual glue?

After repairing any defects on the old panel (and skin) that would show through a new skin, you put the new one on top of the old one. Removing the existing skin would be 'insult to injury' with a job that is already a PITA!!

I've done it....and would never do it again.

The speaker hole I can live with and fill with a door speaker. Has anyone found a good way to remove the glue? It looks like rubber cement.

Try acetone. Second choice would be lacquer thinner.

Hi Pm,
Here's a link to a recent 're-skin' thread.
I'm unsure if the photos still will appear. (They don't for me.)
They are really are worth your seeing, so you might want to contact the poster.
Regards,
Alan
