They wouldn't let me measure at the store. Different manufacturer, OD difference in the press fit parts is almost 0.015"! I have no idea how two of the O'Rielly's parts could be sooo off.
Hi,
"My engine is lacking the panel you have that the tube sits through."
The 'plate' you see is actually one of the 4 spark plug heat shields that help to protect the spark plugs and spark plug wire connectors from the intense exhaust heat.
The tube for dip stick doesn't touch the shield.

Hello all. Forgive me, but this is my first classic car, and I'm struggling hard already. My latest problem is that I've had to remove the aftermarket dipstick my C3 came with because it was a broken off braided wire. I've bought the OEM replacement from O'Reilly's, but it just wont fit. I've seen that it's intended to be a press fit, but I've tried pressing firmly as well as using a mallet to lightly tap it in. No go. Also when I insert the dipstick it seems almost spring loaded in the last inch. I'm unsure if it's incorrect or if it is supposed to be that way. Am I doing something wrong? I know I could make it fit with grinding or cutting a relief slit in the tube end, but I'm trying to make positive, OEM style changes in the car rather than more Jimmy-rigging to get **** to work.
I have the opposite problem.... my original tube I has a loose fit. The tube has the o-ring installed but tube swivels in the block.
Welp. Got a replacement at autozone after mangling the O'Rielly's part. Fits perfectly. FML.
It's usually the other way around . You normally would get better quality at O'Reilly's but in this case I would take all of your receipts back and explain the situation and demand a refund . I doubt that they will give you any trouble . But glad to hear you got it fixed .
