Please help start my beloved corvette c3!
Can someone here with mechanical knowledge of Corvettes help out please?
Also willing to pay money through bank transfer for advice, which will help start my beloved Corvette C3.
Basically i have a Corvette C3 1980 5.7 V8 L-82 Automatic. Its been sitting in a garage for 4-5 years. Ive recently brought it near me as it was in another country. The engine turns and there is a spark, however there is a loud noise which may disallow the engine from starting. Ive recently bought a Starter motor, however its cracked it. We may be placing it in the wrong position. PLEASE any questions or anything would massively help, as i said im also willing to pay as the country im currently in doesnt have any mechanics with very good knowledge of classic corvettes however, we do have mechanics which are quite good at what they do but we need assistance as this may be the only classic corvette in the country.

I assume that you mean the engine is not turning over correctly and the starter is making a noise . I see you have already put a shim in the starter but it may not be the correct amount or in the right position . Some work better with none at all . If the starter is binding it will cause the symptoms that you are describing. You mentioned that something is cracked , what is that ? If it is the starter nose piece then I would say that it is binding and not turning free . At closer inspection it looks like the teeth on the flywheel are shiny on the surface that would indicate that the starter needs more shims . The gear on the starter should only be contacting the gears on the flywheel without bottoming out on the surface or the flywheel teeth .

Hi KB,
What country is GB?
Knowing where you are might help in getting you the guidance you need.
What made you think the starter needed to be replaced? Was the old starter making the same noise as the new starter?
Could this motor be 'locked-up'? (The inside parts won't move.)
Regards,
Alan
