It appears that your radio isn't pushed all the forward as it is needed to be for correct install of everything, like Alan is showing. I don't see the thin radio nuts unless you have them underneath the bezel. If so, this may be what's keeping the radio from coming forward?? The nuts will pull the radio forward when carefully tightened. All the vendors have them. These are from Corvette Central
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response , I will look to see if the radio nuts are behind the bezel , I do have the inserts for mr radio , however, if you look closely at replacement center bezel there are two " bumps " that prevent my plastic radio inserts from sitting flush in the hole . Do people grind these out or it's not a factor ?

Gotcha! I see what you mean now. I think my original has that little hole open and there is a little stud on the radio body that fits in it, to help hold it straight. If I remember correctly. Maybe on the repro that casted over in the molding process and will need drilled out. I'm sure someone will respond shortly.
Good luck.

Your real problem could be that your radio is NOT a '71 part. If it is a later vintage radio, the control shafts are LONGER. That may be why you didn't push the radio all the way forward like it should be.
If that is the case, you need to use your Dremel with a cut-off wheel to cut some off the ends of both shafts. Measure/think WISELY, then cut them as needed.

Should work just fine.
My radio was never out of car until I started restoration. I'm sure it's original, however , had radio restored hmmmmm
Hi,
It appears the 2 thin nuts that tooch pictured need to be installed in order to pull the radio into position on the rear of the bezel.
It appears the 2 chrome plated controls need to be installed before the ***** are pushed into place.

Alan
