Hi,
Gary Bosselman who is heading up the Revision Team for the new edition of the NCRS 68-69 Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide asked me to to let folks know that the new Manual will be available for sale at the NCRS booth at the Carlisle event.
I'm thinking 68-69 owners will find it as interesting and useful as 70-72 owners have found the new 70-72 Manual to be.
Regards,
Alan
I believe the NCRS booth is generally located below the grandstand.
Rats, I was under the impression that effort was just starting so I went ahead and bought one. For a guy that isn't going the NCRS route but just wants to know what stock was so I can make decisions is it worth buying twice?
Hi 20,
Yes it is.
A pretty amazing update in both information and photos!
Regards,
Alan
friend said you had restored a 68 ...doing that now myself..whew...said you might be able to help with finding parts..etc..vitllnk@aol.com...this is my second one..bbc,a/c 4spd, conv...do all my own work...thanks,,Malcolm
Hi Malcolm,
Nice to talk to you.
68, bb, 4-speed, a/c, convertible!!!! That's about as good as it gets!
The car I restored is a 71.
It has a lot in common with your 68 but as you well know your 68 is quite different at the same time.
There are a couple of very knowledgable 68 and 68-69 folks here that will be better able to help you than I.
But, as I read your posts I'll add what I can on occasion if it seems appropriate.
"do all my own work", good for you…. (and the car)!
Regards,
Alan
Hello Alan,
Thank you for the heads up. Have you seen it yet? I assume its going to have some color pics like the new 70-72?
I have the 4th but will be getting the 5th as soon as possible.
Can't make it to Carlisle. I work in the School system and we can't go on vacation or take days of during the last 3 weeks of August before the start of the school year.
I had to check - The 4th edition is dated 2012. I am surprised they put out a revised edition a mere 5 years later. It's not as if anything has changed in 68/69 corvettes during the past 5 years.
AND, they are still selling the 4th edition on the NCRS website for $79.95 !! The 70-72 manual is listed as a 5th edition. I have to ask, "Are you sure?" (edit edit... I guess if you heard it from the team leader you are pretty sure!) I will check it out when/if I go to Carlisle. It will be a gameday decision, factoring weather and how I feel at that moment!
Hi Ed,
No, I haven't seen the new 68-69 Manual yet.
I've had almost nothing to do with it since I know so little about 68-69 cars and my photos are almost entirely of 70-72 cars.
My understanding is that it is the equal of the new 70-72 Manual.
Regards,
Alan
Hi PRNDL,
Your right in saying "nothing has changed".
However, there has been a concerted effort by a sizable group of 68-72 NCRS members during the last 5+ years to increase the amount of, and to refine the detail of, the information available in the manuals and also to document typical configurations and installations with the use of color photographs.
That was applied to the 70-72 Manual first since it had been without an update the longest.
Many folks felt that the 70-72 Manual changed the status quo for the Manuals and therefore that the 68-69 Manual should receive the same type of update.
I hope you decide to buy one.
Regards,
Alan
Here are 2 photos that I think illustrate what the 70-72 Manual has become.
