I seem to have hit a snag on my 81 convertible conversion, I can't for the life of me figure out how the mounting plates attach for the rear deck hinges. I purchased new plates but can't seem to get them in the right position. Would anyone have a picture of the hinge plate or bottom area of the deck hinge? thanks.
Ok, so these are the plates I bought for the deck hinge mounting, however they don't seem to line up with the opening above the #4 mount in any position. Am I missing something else or was the mount opening different on an '81 than a '75 ? I have the AIM but it seems really weak on the convertible parts and assembly.
You have it going the wrong direction. The 2 holes on the short tab should be against the outer wall and should line up with the existing rivets on that wall. Then the 2 holes on the bottom should line up with the existing holes on the floor pan.
This would only work if the rivet moles are the same between the 2 years, which I am unsure of. But, that is how it should mount up.
Edit: You will have to drill out the old rivets and install new ones. Essentially you will be sandwiching the fiberglass between the 2 brackets.
you know, for some reason I never thought to turn them sideways, I guess all the other small pieces clouded my mind..I will admit, this was/is a very involved and tedious conversion. But I will not give up until it is complete...famous last words of many I am sure..

No problem, only reason I knew right off the bat is because I just replaced the ones on my '68. Good luck with the conversion!
I am all for doing away with the caged nut if it has failed...which was there only for ease and speed of assembly.
But I would like to suggest that you invert the bolt and have the threads inside the car and head head exposed to what the rear tire will throw on it.
Just a suggestion.

Good idea, thanks, I'll make sure to invert it before I put in the plates...
Thank you to everyone on here for all the help and guidance without passing judgement, there are only a few forums where I feel comfortable and this one is right up there at the top...
