new 3 door compartment
I'm redoing my interior on my 72 coupe. I ordered the new frame and door frames for the rear compartments. The factory hinges are riveted to the frame. Flat on each side for clearance. Which i need to transfer to the new frame. What is available as a replacement for the rivets? thanks

Maybe you could drill out the original rivets and use aluminum tubular short rivets to install the new hinges. I the underside of the rivet is to bulky, use a small sanding disc to grind off excess aluminum.

Hi ol,
You can use the typical soft flat head rivets to attach the hinge to the frame.
There's a rivet available that has the smaller head size as the originals had.
After setting the rivets the 'set' side can be filed flatter so they don't cause an installation problem.
After the screws that mount the frame to the underbody metal strip along the rear of the compartment are installed the rivets become redundant.
Regards,
Alan

YES...GM used solid soft aluminum rivets like what Alan71 has shown a photo of...but actually the rivets he posted a photo of are not the correct ones The heads of the rivets are larger.
The head of the rivet is on the backside of your frame and when you buck the rivet..it is bucked against your steel hinge for your compartment door.
I have never needed to file any of these rivets when they are completely installed.

thanks Dub, Alan, and doorgunner. I see a couple of vendors offer them. Ill order the rivets vs trying to find something from a local hardware store.
