I’m not sure if any members remember my first post after buying a 1968 Rally Red Vert last August or not? I posted so many threads about how to take a documented original 43,000 mile, #’s matching car and making it driveable for a disabled vet, without losing the original feel or as little as possible.
So after a year of dealing and researching my options, I will now unveil my restored 1968 dual top convertible, that has aftermarket air which looks fairly original, C5 seats with heat and lumbar, and a ididit Tilt column for ease of entry and exit.
The goal was to make it comfortable to drive and keep the ability of being put back to 100% original in a single day....except for the air, that’s in for good!
Please let me know your thoughts as I did every thing myself with no help from anyone except for Al knock installing the white vinyl on my Hardtop after I restored every other part of it.

Both the Hardtop and the Wheels took hundreds of hours.
I decided to go with white even though Black was it in 68...it just looks better since the convertible is also white.
The steering column was the final piece making this car accessible for us older folks with disabilities.
I still have the original wheel, but found this one and think it wakes up the interior.
Can you see it??? That’s right I found an original Center vent, so even though it’s vintage air, at first appearance it looks stock.
The seats are so comfy after installing the strengthening kit and the new covers...the heat and lumbar were easier than I ever imagined. Well members, here’s my 1968 Corvette for your viewing pleasure, Hope everyone has a fabulous Thanksgiving and Holiday Season!

Thanks everyone
Rick

Looking at that interior, why do we keep those original flat skinny seats? The column. Are some pics the original one? Cuz it looks red in some shots, and looks chrome in others.

Nice work! I’m glad it came out nice for you. The white top makes it look quite interesting. Love the red interior.
I see it looks like a base 68 Convertible with 327-300hp 3 spd auto, the same as my car.
I’m curious on when your car was made. My last VIN digits are 405567. D27 on my trim tag.
A very Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

Your car looks great. But are they ever "complete". I would like to see the A/C system. If you get and engine picture that would be great. Thanks.

Congratulations on a job VERY WELL DONE! The car looks beautiful with your added personal touches.. Did you paint the car yourself too?
I really like the white top, it looks great on a red car. I often wondered what a white hardtop would look like on a red car. When I talked with the second owner of my car he told me that he had bought a hardtop for it when he owned it back in 75 and had it painted white just like the soft top. I asked him if he had any photos with it on the car, but he never got back to me with any......
Great Job and thanks for sharing it
Happy Thanksgiving!

Derek, you are absolutely correct...the work took a year so you are seeing the car at various stages. The column is chrome to break up all the red, just like the white in the seats...just trying to add contrast!
THANKS EVERYONE!

Terrific job! Beautiful work. From the photos, I only noticed one minor item that needs to make it look 'original'...

The forward face of the rear side vent section [each side] needs to get painted with satin black paint so that it appears the same as the other open slots. Like I said....minor. But, that's how they were done at the factory.

All that done in one year??? (You must have worked on it every day!) Outstanding!!!

Gorgeous job, you should be very proud. Steering column access would be a welcomed addition for me getting in and out of my cars. Nicely done! Enjoy the heck out of it. ðŸ‘
