Default Quick Question

While I have my drivers side dash out I thought I would address my issue with my speedo, and tach bezel. I was wondering what finish it came with. It looks like a flat black. I am not sure if it is because it is old or if it was that way new. And also what prep would it need, just scuff it up, and paint, or if it needs primer first. Thanks as always, everyone on here are very helpful.

Hi C,
The bezels were a semi-flat black originally.
If you feel the need to sand the surface first use very fine grit paper, (1000 maybe), so you don't introduce any visible scratches into the bezel's surface that might show in the new paint.
Regards,
Alan

As always Alan 71 you are johnny on the spot. Thanks so much. When I was talking about scuffing I thought it might need it for paint to stick. I will just clean it real good and spray them and use some acetone on a cloth and go lightly on the chrome edge to remove the paint. Thanks again Alan.

You can use a razor blade to clean the paint off the lip rather than acetone.

Thanks Al T I have another question. I had an old bezel and I took prep spray to check what would happen if I cleaned it before painting. Well I found out do not do that ,it worked great as a paint stripper. I painted it after and the paint you could use your fingernail and scrap the paint off. Should you use a adhesion promoter before painting on the bezels.
Thanks as always guys.

All fresh paint (unless it has a 'hardener' added) requires DAYS to fully cure. Might you have put your fingernail in there before it got fully cured?

7T1vette I thought the same thing I did it the next day just to see. It was one I am not using. I will use the promoter first then paint. Thanks for all the help.
